The Liebherr L1-24 is the first of a compact series of
self-erecting cranes, and it first appeared at the Bauma
exhibition in 2016.
The crane has a maximum capacity of 2.5 tonnes, and a
maximum reach of 25 or 27m.
The model is configured in the 27m version and with
concrete ballast.
Packaging
The model comes in a high quality Liebherr branded box
with the parts bedded in black foam rubber.
The review model had
no defects or missing parts.
There is no information about the real crane. There
is an instruction sheet for the model which is entirely
pictorial.
Detail
The base is simple with four outrigger beams each having
a screwed post with a plastic pad.
The bottom of
the crane has nicely shaped equipment cabinets with
sharp Liebherr graphics. The ballast is modelled
as grey concrete blocks which are in two solid pieces
rather than separate slabs as on the real crane. The
ladder rungs are formed within the solid casting rather
than as separate parts, but a nice detail is that the
Liebherr name is embossed in the castings.
The mast is metal and is in two pieces which are
hinged together.
They reflect the simplicity of the real crane.
The back tie consists of metal and plastic elements with
a nice single steel coloured rope, rather than the twin
ropes of the real crane.
The lattice jib is metal and in three sections.
The casting is hollow underneath. It is straight when unfolded and is supported by a soft
plastic tie. Plastic Liebherr sign boards are
attached.
The trolley is plastic with tiny metal pulleys, and the
hook is metal. The pulley at the mast top is also metal.
A Liebherr flag is included and can be hung from the
hook.
Features
The model can be displayed in folded mode with
or without the ballast
detached. No transport axles are included.
The outriggers rotate out from the transport position
and there is simple locking in an operating position.
The pads can be screwed down.
The erection mode replicates that of the real crane and
it works well.
It rotates smoothly.
The jib can be set at three different extensions.
The trolley can be positioned anywhere along the jib by
hand.
The winch can be operated by a key which works through a hole in the
bodywork.
The hook is just able to lower under its own weight.
Quality
This is a well engineered model with metal for
the mast and jib, and a few plastic parts elsewhere.
The paintwork is fine and the graphics are sharp.
Price
It is reasonable value.
Overall
This is a simple model reflecting the
simplicity of the real crane. It would have been nice
if it had included transport axles to give additional
display options. When erected it is quite a large
model, and reasonably stable.
Footnotes
The model was introduced in June 2017. |
