| This is a model in Corgi's Hauliers of Renown series and is in the colours of Larkin Logistics of Worcestershire in England. The company was founded in 1969 and focused on delivering loads to the building industry. The Scania T 124 tractor modelled here was acquired in 2004. The Larkins website can be visited here.
Packaging
The model comes in a high quality box with a photo of it on the cover. Inside the box is an expanded polystyrene tray and the parts are securely held between clear plastic formers. There were no defects or missing pieces on the review model.
A card is included which gives the model a unique number in the series and also provides some information about the livery and the real machine. A small bag of parts is included and these have to be fitted to the tractor to add detail.
Detail
The Scania 6x2 tractor looks particularly smart with its excellent graphics which surround the cab. Some of these are intricate and small and the overall effect is impressive.
Underneath, the tractor has some basic detailing, and the tyres are mounted on plastic hubs. The tyre tread design is the same on all wheels. At the front, the tractor has an impressive light bar with blue tinged lights. Other lights are modelled well and the there is plenty of other detailing in terms of aerials, colour coded mirrors, and air horns. There are some nice treaded steps to provide access to the cab.
At the rear the tractor has coiled air lines and the rest of the model including the mud guards on the wheels and the fifth wheel are all in metal so it feels pretty solid.
The dropside trailer is a fairly simple model. The structure and sides are all in metal, with the deck surface in plastic and made to look like separate timbers. The wheels have metal hubs with large tyres. The sandbag load comes in two solid pieces which appear to be resin, and the quality of the decoration and texturing make them appear very convincing indeed.
The Moffett Mounty is an interesting part of the model. It is fairly small but the casting details are very good and plastic is limited to the operator's cabin.
Features
The tractor has a steering front axle and the range of movement is limited and a hard steering lock cannot be attained. The front engine cover opens up and a plastic engine is revealed.
The trailer has support legs which feature moving cams on the feet.
The forklift has a steering rear wheel and a fork assembly which slides forward. Unfortunately it has no vertical movement so cannot be posed lifting.
Quality
This is a typically robust Corgi model and the quality of the decoration is its major strong point. Plastic is used very sparingly.
Price
The model is reasonable value.
Overall
Corgi have produced a good looking model which would look very good in a construction site diorama with other models. Although the feature count is not high, the paintwork and graphics make up for this to some extent. Overall it is recommended.
Footnotes
The model appeared in 2010 in a run of 1750 models.
