| Comment on this model.
This model is from the Corgi Hauliers of Renown series. It is a 'Special Edition' meaning the production numbers are not necessarily limited, and the collector card does not have a unique serial number.
It is in the colours of Eddie Stobart, which is one of the largest and well-known transportation companies in the UK and it employs around 6000 people. The tractor modelled is 'Jan' from the Stobart fleet.
Packaging
The model comes in a high quality presentation-style box with a photo of the model. Inside, the model is contained within an expanded polystyrene tray with a clear plastic lid. There was no damage or missing parts on the review model.
Included with the model is a Collector Card which gives some background to the livery.
The only assembly required is to attach the mirrors and aerials to the cab. Some are a little loose fitting so may need encouragement to stay in place. Airlines can be fitted from the tractor to the trailer.
Detail
The Scania R420 is a 6x2 and underneath the transmission is modelled but the front end is basic, and large rivets are visible on other parts. The thin tyres are the same on each of the good-looking wheels.
The cab paintwork and graphics are certainly complex and mainly very good although there was the odd blemish on the review model. A fleet number and tractor name is on the cab. The detailing is good with two aerials on the roof, door mirrors and wipers, but the interior detail is fairly basic. One of the front headlights had quite a bit of glue behind the lens. Behind the cab, the wheel arches and fifth wheel is metal and there are black coiled air lines. There are number plates front and rear, and the rear light clusters are coloured strips.
The box trailer is typical Corgi - heavy and solid. The chassis detail is simple but the small wheels look fine. A pair of landing legs have plastic cam feet.
The sides appear to be plastic but there is no visible difference to the metal parts. The Stobart graphics are very sharp. At the rear the doors have the hinges and bolts detailed within the casting, and the detailed graphics are applied well.
Features
The tractor rolls reasonably although not all wheels were properly grounded on the review model. The steering works and is notched, and it achieves a reasonable angle.
The trailer can stand on its support legs with the cam feet rotated down although it is not quite level as there is not enough adjustment in the feet. However the wheels all appear grounded.
Quality
The model is generally well made and strong with the assembly of the tractor and trailer not quite up to the standard seen on other recent Corgi models. The paintwork and graphics are also generally very good, but with a couple of small imperfections on the tractor.
Price
The model is reasonable value.
Overall
This is a very popular livery and no doubt accounts for the unlimited status of the production run. It looks good on display.
Footnotes
The model first appeared in the Corgi 2012 catalogue.
