This version of a 6x2 DAF 105 tractor and trailer is in the colours of Keith Murray Transport of Dumfries in Scotland.  The company was founded in 1999 and operates mainly flatbed trailers delivering concrete and timber products across the UK.

The tractor decoration is dedicated to Colin McRae, the great Scottish rally driver.

Packaging

As usual for Corgi the packaging is high quality and inside the box the model is contained between clear formers.  There were no defects or missing parts on the review model.

The only assembly required is to fit the cab mirrors.  A card is included which gives the model a unique number in the production run and also provides a little information about the real company and vehicle.

Detail

The DAF tractor has some simple detailing underneath with the prop shaft modelled.  Chassis details such as the fuel tank are on the opposite side to the real machine.  The wheel hubs are brightly chromed although the tyres are the same tread pattern on all axles.

The cab has various mirrors, windscreen wipers, and air horns, and there is a light bar on the grille although it has four lamps compared to six on the original.  The livery detailing is reasonably accurate with the blue lettering being perhaps a touch light.  Behind the cab is a poem dedicated to Colin McCrae but it is difficult to read and crisper graphics would have made a difference.

Coiled air lines are fixed to a plug for connection to the trailer and there is some plastic diamond plated surfacing.  The rear wheel arches are metal, and the mud flaps at the back have the DAF name applied.  The rear lights are painted.

The trailer is quite heavy as it is nearly all metal apart from the side rails.  The deck surface is patterned to represent timber but without any grain effect.  Underneath, the basic structure is represented although there is a slightly strange looking stippled effect on the underside of the deck.  The support legs are pretty good and the wheels have nicely detailed metal hubs with good fat tyres.  At the rear the light bar is painted.

The loads are resin and in three separate pieces.  They represent concrete pipes complete with tarpaulins and tie-downs painted on.  The overall effect is very good and the loads certainly enhance the appearance of the model.

Features

The tractor has fixed front steering so the poses are limited.

The trailer disconnects from the tractor and stands reasonably well on the support legs with their adjustable cam feet.

Quality

The model is robustly made and has a high metal content.  The paintwork is very good but the graphics would have been a bit better had they been sharper so that the poem on the back of the cab could be more easily read.

Price

It is very good value if bought at the lower prices that can be found by shopping around.

Overall

This model is good quality although the detail and features are not to the best of modern standards.  However the pipe load is a very good addition and really improves the model overall, and the flatbed can be used for plant loads if required.  It is recommended.
