This DVD is by Eric Orlemann and Keith Haddock.

This disc makes use of footage shot by Eric Orlemann in US surface mines between 2005-2008.  The script is by Keith Haddock and the narration by David Holt.

It features many large earthmovers including shovels, dozers and scrapers and wheel loaders, and they are all shown in action.  Among the machines featured are the Komatsu D575A shown both dozing and ripping, the Le Tourneau L 1850 and L2350, and the Caterpillar 994F.  Also appearing are the Caterpillar D11R and 657E/G scrapers.

However the star of the show is the giant 'Silver Spade', which was the last of the giant stripping shovels in service.  There is extensive film of the machine in action with plenty of interesting technical and historical  information too.  Over 20 minutes is devoted to the Silver Spade with more as an 'Extra' at the end of the DVD.  The machine was taken out of service shortly after the filming in 2006 so the DVD represents a historic record.

The quality of the filming is very good with decent editing.  No doubt because of the camera used at the time it is in 4x3 format, rather than the more common 16x9 widescreen.  The commentary is also good, clear and informative, while perhaps some louder audio of the machines might have added some more atmosphere.

This DVD is particularly interesting because of its historic footage and gives a chance to see quality film of machines that are now hard or impossible to see.  It is highly recommended.
