The K-Tec 1237 ADT Scraper is a self-loading scraper which couples to an articulated dump truck as tractor.  It has a heaped capacity of 37yd³.

This model has the scraper coupled to a Volvo A40GFS chassis.

Packaging

The packaging is a windowed K-Tec-branded box and the model is contained between a pair of clear plastic formers.

There were no missing parts or defects on the review model.

There is some interesting information about the real scraper printed on the side of the box, but no instructions for the model.  One end of the box is decorated as a container to indicate that the real scraper can be shipped in a standard container.

Detail

The chassis of the dump truck appears to be derived from the Volvo A40G model(Motorart 300050).  It has metal transmission components at the rear, with simple detailing at the front.  The rubber tyres are very good and they are mounted on detailed wheels.

There is a tiny Volvo badge on the front and a high point is the mesh grilles on the sides.  Under the engine cover is a detailed plastic engine with different coloured components.

The cab has plastic mirror assemblies and grab rails around the roof.  The handrails are metal. Textured surfaces are on the steps to the cab.  A painted beacon light is on the roof.

Behind the cab the exhaust system looks good and a hydraulic hose crosses the pivot point.  A special frame is attached for the scraper connection, and it has metal wheel arches.

The scraper is a robust model and on this version it is a different shade of yellow to the Volvo.  The underside is simple and the tyres have a good tread and are mounted on decent wheels.

The support at the front has very good hydraulics detailing although the small support gantry on top of the gooseneck is not modelled.

The bowl has the cutting edge modelled, and the gate has the K-Tec logo nicely engraved.  The mesh screen on top is fine gauge and the ejector also has a fine quality mesh screen.  There are some very small high quality graphics which really enhance the overall look.

At the rear there is a pusher block and also a connection point for a second scraper.

Features

The A40G rolls easily, and the steering at the pivot point is reasonably good with stiff rams controlling it.  Axial rotation is possible at the pivot point.

At the front the engine cover opens up and a separate part folds forward.  It can be posed open.

The connection to the tractor is secured by a small locking pin, but it is fiddly to install.

The scraper rolls well with each wheel turning independently.

The lift cylinders are able to hold the bowl up for travelling, and lower it for cutting.

The gate works well and it can be posed in any position.

The ejector slides reasonably smoothly.

A second scraper can be added to form a scraper train.  However, the securing pin is too large to fit in this location and although in practice this is not much of an issue.

Both parts of the model can be used as a transport load, although the scraper is abnormally wide.

Quality

The model has a high metal content and a very good feeling of quality..

The paint and graphics are very good.

Price

It is reasonable value overall.

Overall

This is an interesting model which is improved compared to the K-Tec scraper replica which first appeared in 2014.  The functionality and details are at a high level, and it looks impressive, particularly as a scraper train.

Footnotes

The model appeared in April 2022.
