The A 922 Rail Litronic is an excavator adapted for
running on railway tracks and is used in railway
construction and maintenance work.
It is a machine in the 20 tonne weight
class.
This model is updated from NZG #946 released in 2016.
Packaging
The box is Liebherr branded and the model
and parts are securely packed within expanded
polystyrene trays.
There were no defects or
missing parts on the review model.
There is no information provided about the real machine
or the model.
Detail
A piece of scale track is provided consisting of a solid
plastic base which is moulded to represent sleepers and
ballast, and a pair of metal rails. The ends have
connectors so pieces could be joined to make longer
track sections.
Underneath, the detail level is simple with the
transmission to the axles modelled.
The good quality wheels have inner tyres with a
different tread pattern used to engage with the rail
head and provide traction and braking. The
undercarriage is almost all metal including the outriggers and rail bogies.
The cab has very good detail inside including an
additional passenger seat and nice controls. Mirrors,
wipers and lights add detail outside and the many tiny
graphics on the cab door are excellent.
Panel handles are detailed and the side grilles are
represented by graphics. At the rear, the Liebherr
name is embossed on the counterweight and there is a
video camera on top. Another video camera is modelled on the non-cab side. Excellent graphics
and highlighting around the body provide an authentic
appearance.
On top there is an excellent etched grille in the engine
cover.
The boom and stick are modelled using small pinned
connections which are discrete. Soft hydraulic hoses
and pipes are modelled and graphics enhance the appearance.
The quick connector is metal as is the ditch cleaning bucket.
A clamshell grab is included as an optional tool, and it
is a metal part and has hydraulic hose detailing.
Features
The steering axle achieves a reasonable range of
movement. There is no axle oscillation.
The rail bogies can be raised and lowered, and the
mechanism has a good stiffness.
The
outriggers have a good range of movement and the pads
tilt. The model can be supported wheels-free.
The model rotates.
Movement of the boom and stick is very good.
The model is stable on the tracks with the outriggers
down, only wanting to tilt when reaching far out to the
side.
The bucket rotates and can dig at an angle, and is
removable.
The clamshell grab swings and rotates, and the jaws can
be opened and closed.
Quality
This is a high quality model with a high metal
content.
The paintwork is very good and the
graphics are excellent.
Price
It is good value for the high quality offered.
Overall
This is a worthwhile enhancement of the A 922 and the
addition of the clamshell grab makes it a more flexible
model. A high point is the authentic looking
detailing.
Footnotes
The model first appeared in late 2020.
