This model is a Scania 730 S 4x2 coupled with a Lohr Car Transporter.

It is in the large scale of 1:18.

Packaging

The model comes in two separate NZG branded outer boxes, and inside the models are contained within large expanded polystyrene trays.

The review models had no missing parts or defects.

A nice touch is that a pair of cotton gloves are supplied with the Scania.  Included with the Scania are parts which allow connection to a Lohr Vehicle Transporter and these should be used instead of the similar parts included with the Lohr.

There is no information about the real truck or trailer. An instruction sheet is included with the Scania, and a comprehensive manual is included with the Lohr.

Detail

The Scania has a very detailed chassis, with the engine block and gearbox visible, and there hoses and cables which add detail.  The exhaust system and tanks are impressive and the drive shaft and rear suspension are impressive.  Wheel chocks and soft mud flaps are at the rear.

The wheels look very good with different tyres front and rear, although there is no tyre branding in the sidewalls.

The Scania cab has impressive Scania Vabis logos on each side of the cab.  On the roof there is a see-through roof light, air horns and stiff wire aerials.  The grille at the front is finely reproduced, the lights are high quality, and there is a generic NZG number plate.  The door handles and mirrors are detailed.

Inside the cab the detail is very good and includes a detailed console and seat belts.

Behind the cab the Scania name is embossed in the casting. There are coiled lines, and they clip or plug into holders for neat storage.  There are various high quality walkway surfaces.  The rear lights have plastic lenses and there are wheel chocks.  The wheel arches are plastic as on the real truck, and Scania is printed on the mud flaps.

Under the cab is a very detailed engine.

The Lohr car transporter has a very high metal content.  The decking is high quality sheet metal with mesh-type openings.  The front rigid section has Lohr graphics and lights at the rear.  Wire parapets provide safety on the top deck.

The axles on the trailer have detailed wheels and lights are fitted down the sides.  At the rear there are reflectors and an NZG number plate.

Features

The Scania rolls smoothly in a straight line helped by its heavy weight.  The steering is also smooth and achieves a very good angle.  When steering, the steering wheel in the cab also turns a little.

The rear axle has a stiff working suspension.

The fifth wheel has a working latch.  The ends of the coiled lines are hung on hangers and can be detached.

The front of the cab has a section which can be raised up and posed in the open position.

The cab tilts to a good angle and it reveals the very detailed engine.

The cab doors open widely and have a spring mechanism to keep them tightly shut.

The arm rests of the seats can be raised up.

The spoiler on the roof can be angled up, or closed.

The Lohr transporter is highly functional.

The top deck of the front section can be lowered by screw jacks at the front and by tilting the rear supports.  The top deck can be extended backwards to form a loading bridge to the trailer.  The same can be done with an extension on the lower deck.

Their is suspension on the two axles.

The trailer has adjustable top deck deck sections which can be angled and extended, and that is true of the lower deck too.  Metal cross beams and wheel support beams can be located on deck extensions although they are a loose fit.  Plenty of wheel chocks are provided and these can be located by clipping into the deck mesh openings.

Loading ramps can be located in holders at the rear, or used for loading vehicles.

There are two opening flaps to storage compartments at the rear of the rigid section. There are also opening panels between the trailer axles, and on one side it has a control box with levers.

Landing legs can be posed in transport mode or extended, rotated and extended to allow the transporter to be posed without a tractor.

Multiple configurations are possible for loading with up to 8 cars being possible.

Quality

This is a a high quality model that is very heavy with a very high metal content.

The paintwork and graphics are excellent.

Price

It is costly but given its huge size and high quality, it is good value.

Overall

This is a magnificent model which, if loaded with suitable vehicles, makes a stunning display piece.
