| Comment on this model.
The Mercedes-Benz Antos is a class of truck that has been specifically developed for distribution work from 18 tonnes upwards.
This model of the Antos is a 6x2 chassis with a curtainside swapbody.
Packaging
The model comes in an NZG branded box and sits in a pair of expanded polystyrene trays.
There were no missing parts or defects on the review model, and no information about the model or the real machine is provided.
There is no assembly required.
Detail
The chassis has the transmission fully modelled and the tanks and exhaust after-treatment system are detailed. The tyres appear to be the same on all axles and they are mounted on good looking wheels.
The cab has aerodynamic faring, a roof light, horns and finely drawn aerials with the door mirrors being colour coded. The interior is good too with the steering wheel having the Mercedes logo on it. The grille at the front is finely reproduced and the lights have plastic lenses. There are small graphics around the cab including some tiny BlueTec efficiency signs. The number plates at the front and back look good and amusingly they are NZG 881.
At the rear the lights have plastic lenses, there are wheel chocks and a towing hitch.
The swapbody is composite metal and plastic. The underside and ends are metal and the sides and roof are plastic. At the rear the casting has locking handles which are highlighted with silver paint.
The sides are plastic and represent curtains with the tie-down straps at the bottom, and the roof has some subtle texture to indicate flexible material.
Features
The steering turns to a very realistic angle.
The rear axle is a lift axle with a small range of movement but it can just be clipped out of service.
The swap body has legs which pull out and can be rotated so the body can stand clear of the truck chassis. The legs cannot be clipped in the down position so it is easy for them to fold when touched.
Quality
The truck chassis is a high quality well made model with a high metal content.
The paint and graphics are simple but good.
Price
It is reasonable value.
Overall
This Mercedes-Benz truck is up to NZG's usual quality standards and is a good-looking well made model. It is highly recommended.
Footnotes
The model first appeared at the Nuremberg Toy Fair 2013.
