The tractor is a Volvo FH4 8x4 with a Palfinger PK 74002. The crane is rated at 69 tonne metres with a maximum capacity of 23 tonnes. It can reach 20.4m.
The model is in the colours of Skaks Special Transport, a Danish company
Packaging
The packaging is a typical WSI box.
There were no defects or missing parts on the review model.
A small instruction booklet covers the main features of the crane. There is no information about the real truck.
Detail
The Volvo has a detailed chassis with the 8x4 transmission and suspension fully modelled. The wheels are very attractively finished with different tyres on the front and rear axles.
The cab has orange beacon lights and small aerials on top, together with a name board. The cab interior is two-tone. The Skaks graphics are very good
Under the cab is a detailed engine with Volvo printed on it. The rear wheel arches are textured and at the back the lights have plastic lenses. There is also a towing hitch. The rear two-stage outrigger beams have round metal pads.
The Palfinger crane is very detailed. The outriggers are two-stage and the pistons are smooth, with square pads fitted.
An additional set of four small square spreader plates is also included.
There are many small detailed graphics and the base has various boxes and tanks attached. The boom sections appear to be thin-wall metal, and they have a stiff profile whilst being smooth in operation. The final boom section has a small fixed metal hook.
A plastic lifting beam and separate fly jib are included.
Features
There is linked steering on the front axles and with a limited range of movement. The rear axles have a small amount of up and down movement which is fine although there was also some sideways movement which is not so good.
The cab tilts forward to about 45° and can be posed in the tilted position.
The fifth wheel is adjustable longitudinally allowing a range of trailers to be attached.
The front outriggers are parked in the up right position and can be telescoped out and rotated. The pads can be lowered but it is fiddly to do so because of the tiny rear rams. The rear outriggers can be extended and lowered although the beams are not rigidly guided so they do not maintain a straight profile.
The crane rotates fairly smoothly and the boom unfolds with the rams being stiff and sometimes a little 'jerky' to extend. The telescoping boom extends well and generally holds a pose, with pins provided which can be inserted into the main ram jackets to hold the maximum extension.
The fly jib has some extending sections but the least three do not extend which is a modelling compromise.
The maximum extended height with fly jib is around 50cm, or 20 inches.
A suitable WSI trailer can be attached although it appears that the fifth wheel may be very slightly high meaning that trailer wheels may not quite be fully grounded, however this is barely noticeable.
Quality
This model is high quality and mainly metal.
The paintwork is very good and most of the graphics are sharp.
Price
It is reasonable value.
Overall
As another heavy haulage truck with loader crane this one hits the spot. It looks great in the Skaks colour scheme.
