| An interesting and unusual machine. |
The ABI Mobilram is an unusual model as it has been sponsored by a maker of ancillary equipment rather than the maker of the main machine, in this case a Sennebogen carrier. The real machine is used for a variety of foundation tasks including sheet piling and augering small diameter piles. For a picture of the real machine click here. This machine has been modelled in 1:50 scale.
Packaging
The model comes in a small box which has some simple graphics on the exterior. Inside the model is protected by a foam rubber wrapping. The review model was undamaged.
Detail
The undercarriage has been simply modelled with working sprockets and rubber tracks. There are no separate idlers on the track frames. The body has grilles and panel handles cast in. There is a metal ladder on the right hand side and the upper surfaces have a variety of different textures. Exhaust pipework and intakes are plastic. The cab has good metal grab bars and internally there are console and pedal details.
The ram arm and components are almost all metal and are well detailed. The lifting belt is plastic as are the effective-looking hydraulic lines running from the main body. At the top of the boom is a rope and hook but this is non-operating.
Features
As expected, the tracks work and the body rotates. The main boom is movable and can be posed in transport mode or erected. Whilst the machine is erected the sliding head can be positioned up and down the boom.

The model is well made. Castings are good and the paint and decals do not let the model down. The moving components all work well.
Price
The ABI Mobilram is worth the money and is a good addition to a collection.
Overall
This model is unusual as it represents the foundation engineering sector which has not had many mass produced models to date, even though the real machines are often impressive. It is well made and looks good on a suitable transporter or posed as if working.
