The Liebherr LTR 1220 Telescopic Crawler
Crane is capable
of lifting 220t at 3.0m radius.
This model is in the colours of
Weldex, the largest crawler crane hire company in
the UK. It is an exclusive limited edition by
Diecast Construction Models of 100 pieces.
This version of the model comes with the correct number
of Type N pins.
It comes withthe standard instruction sheet, and also
includes an excellent Weldex brochure and numbered
collector card.
Packaging
The model comes in
two trays held together by a Weldex branded picture
sleeve.
The review model had no defects
or missing parts.
A
detailed instruction sheet is included which has a parts
list and covers the assembly and features of the model.
Aldo included is a mini brochure describing the Weldex
company and with technical information about the real
crane. A numbered collector card is also included
and these are
welcome additions for a limited edition model.
Detail
The tracks are metal and are mounted on detailed track frames.
The rollers are modelled but are non-functional and the
drive sprockets have the Liebherr name embossed on
them. A metal lifting device is included to enable posing of
self-assembly of the tracks and this is a nice touch.
Metal mesh walkway grilles are fitted to plastic frames on
top of the crawler track frames.
Two sets of hydraulic jacks for self-assembly to enable the tracks to be
attached and detached are included. The jacks have smooth
pistons with
plastic pads and are individually numbered.. Metal
ballast boxes sit between the tracks and these have
lifting lugs.
Metal steps can be fitted to the frames or alternatively
to the ballast boxes between the tracks. The steps
are thickly modelled parts.
The crane cab has metal grab rails, signal lights and
many small graphics, unsilvered mirrors, and simple
internal detail. There are excellent tiny warning
graphics. The body has panel handles and grilles
represented within the casting with more warning
graphics. A plastic exhaust assembly completes the
detail at the front.
At the back there is a built-in winch and a second one
which pins into position.
The counterweight slabs are nicely modelled with chevron graphics, and lifting lugs.
The boom is a six section telescope with a nice profile
and each inner section has two-tone colouring and
the Weldex name and this aspect of the decoration sets a
high standard. At the boom head
there are metal sheaves, and a safety-hoist cut-off
chain.
The fly jib is a well made metal piece with
the hinge assembly being plastic.
Two good metal hooks are supplied. The main hook has
three metal sheaves ant the other is a single line hook.
Features
The tracks roll well and are on spring loaded idlers. The track frames
can be extended and retracted, and they are also removable.
Hydraulic self-assembly jacks can be screwed down to
lift the crane body, and short and long sets are
included.
Walkway plates on the track fames can be slid into
position.
The cab can be tilted but on the review model it would
not hold a pose. A footplate can be extended from under
the cab.
Both the ballast boxes and the counterweight are fully removable,
with the counterweight at the rear being configurable.
The crane functions work. The crane rotates
and the boom lift cylinder is locked using a rotating
collar which works, but can lead to some uncertainty
whether it is gripping tightly enough.
The telescoping sections are
smooth and lock off at approximately 46%, 92% and 100% extension.
A second winch can be added or left off.
Operation of
the winches is by using a finger on the serrated drum edge
and both winches rely on friction to act as their brake
and this is adequate for most poses.
The auxiliary jib can be attached or carried on the side of the
boom. It can be posed with the solid section
folded or opened out, and a mechanical ratchet allows
angles of 20° and 40° to be achieved.
Quality
The LTR 1220 is a robust model with a high metal content.
The paint is very good with very good graphics being sharp.
Price
It is
good value as a very limited edition model.
Overall
This is an excellent looking model in the colours of
Weldex, and is a faithful representation of the real
crane. It is very well presented. It
is also a flexible model which allows it to be posed in
various stages of self-assembly.
Footnotes
This version of the model finally appeared after lengthy
production delays in the middle of 2026, in a limited edition of 100 models.
