The Caterpillar 836 Landfill
Compactor has an operational weight of over 56 tonnes. It
is designed to to cope with landfill duties.
Packaging
The model comes in excellent packaging. There is
an outer shipping carton which contains a tin which is
protected by a nylon bag. The tin is high quality
and includes pictures and details about the real
machine.
The review model had no missing parts or defects.
However, the outer shipping carton incorrectly describes
the model as an 863.
An instruction sheet is included which describes how to
install the operator, and there is also a leaflet
describing models coming to the Diecast Masters range.
Detail
The underside has moderate detailing including the axles
differentials. Some of the baseplates are plastic.
The large wheels have metal outers including the wheel
tips. The plastic inners have very fine wheel nut
detailing. There are striker bars adjacent to each
wheel.
At the rear there are small lights at the top of the
radiator and the protection grille is plastic. The
engine enclosure has excellent highlighted rivet heads
detailed.
The cab structure is metal and the roof is plastic with
an excellent colour match.
Inside the cab the seat back has the Cat logo, and the operator
is in the usual Diecast Masters style.
Outside the cab there are soft plastic handrails and
textured walkways and steps.
At the pivot point there are small warning graphics but
there are no hydraulic hoses crossing.
At the front there are more highlighted rivet heads.
The blade ram does not have any hydraulic hose
detailing.
The blade is metal and has wear plates detailed at the
bottom. The large perforated trash grille on top is
plastic.
Features
Each wheel spins independently.
The rear axle oscillates.
Steering across the pivot point achieves a reasonable
angle.
The blade can be raised and lowered and can hold any
position.
The operator can be added or removed via the detachable
roof.
Quality
It is a nice quality robust model with plastic used
appropriately.
The paint is very good and the graphics are sharp.
Price
It is reasonable value for a larger size model.
Overall
This is a very good looking model of the 836 landfill
compactor with pleasant detailing and functionality
The removable operator gives display options.
Footnotes
