This review is of a Peterbilt Model 379 70" Mid Roof Sleeper and Fontaine Magnitude Tri-axle Lowboy with Bunk, Cradle and ERMC 6-axle Hydra-Steer with Metal Beam Section Load.

It is in the colours of Mammoet, the worldwide heavy lifting and transportation specialist.

Packaging

The model comes in a long Mammoet branded box.  Inside, the model is contained within a pair of plastic formers.

There were no missing parts or defects on the review model.

A simple instruction sheet is included for the lowboy, with a more comprehensive sheet for the beam trailer.  Also included is a Mammoet Collect card and small parts.  Some spares are also included.

Detail

The Peterbilt 379 chassis is detailed although the screw heads are large.  The engine is coloured and the drive shaft is modelled.  The tyres have a decent tread pattern, and the chrome wheels are detailed.

A set of optional stick-on signs are supplied such as 'Oversize Load'.

The radiator grille is excellent with an etched grille and the large chromed bumper has a realistic licence plate.  Under the hood is a detailed engine, made of different parts.  The cab interior is also good.  The roof of the cab has lights and air horns.

The cab windows are not 'glazed'. The red and black colour scheme is crisply rendered and there are graphics on the bodywork including a fleet number. There is a chromed exhaust stack and fuel tanks

Detailing behind the cab includes coiled lines and chains although they appear large for the scale.  There is an excellent non-slip walking surface and at the rear the lights are graphics, with Mammoet printed on the mud flaps.

The Fontaine lowboy trailer gooseneck is excellent with a generator on top and an impressive array of sharp graphics.

The deck has plastic replica timber surfacing and there are plastic fold out brackets to extend the width along the edges.  However, extension planks are not included.

The rear 6-axle trailer has a well made structure.  There are steering rams but no hydraulic hoses.  A box on the side bears the Hydra Steer name.  A line runs between the separate trailers and can have flags and lights attached.

The beam is a metal part with sharp graphics.  Tie-down chains have springs attached which maintain the tension.

Features

The Peterbilt steering achieves a moderate angle.

The engine cover tilts forwards to reveal the detailed engine.

The ‘fifth wheel’ tilts.

The gooseneck can be detached from the lowboy trailer deck.

The 6-axle trailer can be carried as a load on the lowboy.  It has has good steering. Turntables for the beam load rotate.  The leading drawbar can be adjusted for height.

Quality

This is decent quality model, with a high metal content.

It has excellent paintwork and graphics.

Price

It is fair value given the size.

Overall

As a second Mammoet model in 1:64 scale it is certainly impressive.  It has some very nice detailing and can be posed well.
