This review is of a model of a Mack RD688SX Mack 6x4 from the year 1985.

It is in the colours of Brian Lawler Construction and was released as part of a set with a matching Talbert 60T trailer.

Packaging

It comes in an outer shipping carton which encloses a Mack branded box.  The model is held within a pair of factory sealed trays.

There were no missing parts or defects on the review model.

Included is a plastic pointer, and a bag containing spare mirrors is a thoughtful touch.

There is no information about the real truck or model.

Detail

The chassis is very detailed with the engine and gearbox visible, and hoses run to the rear axles.  The fuel tanks are plastic and there were slight misaligned joints on the underside of the review model.  The tyres have a good tread pattern but there is no branding, and the wheels are very detailed with flexible rubber mud flaps.

At the front the excellent radiator grille has a silver bulldog mascot. There is an accurate license plate and flags are fixed although they can be released by gentle heating of the glue.

The quality of the artwork is first class with accurate pin striping.  More excellent graphics are present on the sides of the hood.  The engine under the hood is made up of a number of different parts.

The cab roof has lights and air horns, and the Mack name is printed inside the air horns.  There are very thin windscreen wipers, and chrome mirrors.  The interior is also detailed.  There is more fine decoration on the doors.

The air intake and exhaust stacks are really good, and the fuel tanks also look great with their etched mesh steps.  Behind the cab there is a decorated box.

There are lines for connection to a trailer and excellent non-slip walking surfaces on the large deck.  At the rear there are lights and soft mud flaps.

Features

The front wheels steer, with a limited range of movement.  There is working sprung suspension on all axles.

The hood tilts forward to a reasonable angle.

The cab doors can be opened.

The fifth wheel has a spring loaded lever to secure a trailer in position.  It can also be adjusted longitudinally.

Quality

This is high quality model, with a high metal content.

The paint work and graphics are first class and capture the hand painted graphics on the real truck really well.

Price

It is a premium priced model which is good value for the high quality.

Overall

This is another excellent Heavy Haul Replicas model, and it poses very well with the matching trailer.
