This review is of a model of a
Fontaine Magnitude 80T 5-axle Drop Side Rail Trailer.
It is in the colours
of Sid Kamp Trucking.
Packaging
An outer shipping carton encloses a
Heavy Haulage Replicas box with the Rogers name. The
model is held within a pair of factory sealed trays.
There were no missing parts or defects on the review model.
Included are tools and packs of parts for assembly, providing detail, and display options.
Included is a brochure for the real trailer which is
always nice to have. A sheet describes the assembly and
functionality of the model.
Detail
The underside of the trailer deck has an intricate
structure, and the replica timbers are visible.
The gooseneck has holes for the connection of lines from
a tractor. The decoration is very high quality
with the name
'Sid Kamp Trucking' and some very fine pin
striping. Warning sign graphics provide realism but they
are not as legible as sometimes seen. A nicely
modelled generator sits on top and hoses run under the
gooseneck.
The trailer deck has an excellent pre camber and
the deck surface looks realistic. There are useable
D-ring tie-downs on the
inside and outside edges. Accurate yellow shims
are fitted at the joints.
The axles have detailed suspension modelling, and the
chrome wheels have excellent red centres. The
tyres are very good but they do not have branding in the
sidewalls. There are large soft mud flaps, but no licence plate.
A Transportation Pack includes wheel chocks, timbers, cones, a fire
extinguisher, and spare tyres. Oversize load signs
are included but it is not clear how these could be
mounted on the trailer. An excellent inclusion is securing
chains in three different lengths, with binders.
Features
The wheels roll very well although not all were fully
grounded on the review model. . The
suspension works very well.
The intermediate and flip axles can be detached or added
in various combinations which gives very good
flexibility in displaying the model.
The gooseneck can be detached and the ride height of the
deck can be adjusted by a cam handle just like the real
trailer.. Shims are
included to enable the gooseneck / deck angle to be
adjusted.
A different king pin can be fitted to the gooseneck.
The deck comprises two sections which can be separated
giving more display options.
Two chain box covers on the deck can be removed and
replaced.
Quality
This is high quality model, with a high
metal content.
The paint work and artwork are excellent in this Sid
Kamp version.
Price
The
price reflects the overall value of the offering.
Overall
This trailer
is another excellent addition to the Heavy Haul Replicas
stable. It looks great with a Sid Kamp Mack Titan
tractor.
