In a change to the format of previous past reviews of the year, we will now concentrate on the Model of the Year. Once again it is based only on the models reviewed by Cranes Etc during the year As a Bauma year, 2025 saw a number of new model releases. A particular highlight was WSI's long awaited Liebherr LR 1400 SX Crawler Crane. This achieved a high standard for detailing in particular and would have likely been a model of the year in recent times. The same could be said of NZG's Vögele Super 1803-5 X Wheeled Paver which was also an excellent mix of detail and functionality. Bringing up a trio of high quality Bauma introductions was IMC Model's Kobelco TKE750G Telescopic Boom Crawler Crane which also scored well in the review. Some notable truck models also achieved high ratings. Drake Collectibles Kenworth C509 Tri-Drive and Heavy Haul Replicas Mack Titans and Rogers 90T Beam Trailers were the best of the year. However, the highest rated new model in 2025 as reviewed by Cranes Etc was the Sandvik DR412i Blast Hole Drilling Rig by Siks Scale Models. Not only was it very highly detailed and beautifully presented in its own display case, but it showed what was possible by using innovative modelling techniques for smaller volume production runs. Siks Scale Models is a relatively new independent model maker and we can only hope for some more good things from them in 2026.
