The MAN 26.240 tractor is a one of MAN's historic trucks and was popular in Europe around 30 years ago.  This is one of a series of such trucks which has been modelled and it is coupled with a trailer made by the German company Meiller.

Packaging

The packaging is a standard Conrad style box with the model protected by foam rubber wrapping.  There is no information about the real machine or the model included.  The review model had no defects or missing parts.

Assembly is simple being limited to the fixture of door mirrors and width indicators.

Detail

The MAN tractor is crisply detailed.  Underneath, the chassis has the transmission and suspension modelled in a pleasing way.  The treaded tyres are mounted on nicely detailed wheel hubs.

The body is all metal and the lights within the front bumper have lenses, and the indicator lights are painted on.  Under the engine cover is a chromed metal engine block.  On the side the MAN model number appears in tiny writing.  Behind the cab the rest of the tractor is also metal with the exception of the fifth wheel.  The rear lights are painted on.

The trailer feels particularly robust.  The chassis is simply detailed and the landing legs are plastic, and the tyres and hubs are good.  The trailer dump body is metal with the structure defined in the casting and the paint has a high quality to it.  The hydraulic lifting cylinder is also metal.  At the rear the bumper is metal with painted lights.

Features

The tractor steering has an excellent range of movement and the rear axles have a degree of lateral suspension movement.

At the front the engine cover lifts to reveal the engine.

The trailer has linked rear axles which provide a degree of suspension, and the feet on the landing legs can be rotated down or out of service.  The dump body lifts to a good angle using the seven stage hydraulic cylinder.  At the rear the body has top and bottom opening flaps.

Quality

This is model has the feel of typical robust Conrad quality and the finish of the paintwork is very good.

Price

The model represents reasonable value overall.

Overall

Conrad had produced a pleasant historic model which is strong and well made.  As for any historic model it would have been nicer to have some information about the original machine provided.  The detail level is not the highest, but it looks good and is recommended.

Footnotes

The model was announced around the time of the BAUMA exhibition in 2010.
