Comment on this model.

This model is of a historic truck, the Mercedes-Benz LAK 1624.  It is a 4x4 chassis fitted with a tipper body, and it is coupled with a two-axle trailer.

It is finished in burgundy.

Packaging

It comes in a standard Conrad branded box and the model sits in foam rubber.

The review model had no defects or missing parts.

The only assembly required is to fit width indicators and mirrors, which is easy to do.

Detail

Underneath, the chassis is modelled in detail with a nice exhaust system.  The transmission elements are in plastic, and the steering is functionally modelled.  The wheels have a detailed design with all tyres of the same design.

The cab is all metal and the lights within the front bumper are painted.  An excellent mesh radiator grille looks great and there is a tiny Mercedes logo on the front of the bonnet.  Under the engine cover is a nice engine block.

On the side of the bonnet the Mercedes model number appears, and there are finely painted indicator lights.

Behind the cab there are metal tanks on the chassis and at the rear the light clusters are painted and there is a towing hitch.

The tipper body is all metal with nice casting detail on the outside.

The trailer has a metal chassis with plastic used for the axles, and the tyres and wheels are good.

The detailing is good with the wood strips nicely represented including on the deck floor.

At the front the drawbar is metal and at the rear the lights are painted.

Features

The front axle steers and has a very good range of movement.  The rear axle has a small amount of movement to represent suspension.

The bonnet lifts up to reveal the engine and it can stay in a raised position.

The truck body tips to around 45º and can pose at any angle.  The tailgate folds down.

The trailer rolls well and the steering axle can be rotated in a full circle.

A highpoint is the tipping functionality.  Both sides and the tailgate can be dropped down, and the clever tipping mechanism allows rear end tipping and also tipping on either side.  The sides are cast as one part rather than two separate panels as a modelling compromise.

Quality

This is another robust well made model.  It has a high metal content.

The paint quality is very good.

Price

The price represents decent value.

Overall

Conrad does a good job with the range of classic trucks, and this truck and trailer combination is attractive.
