The Liebherr LTM
1110-5.1 Mobile Crane was first announced at the Bauma
Exhibition in 2019.
It has a maximum capacity of 110 tonnes.
Packaging
The model comes in a Liebherr branded box sleeve which
encloses expanded polystyrene trays.
The review model had
no defects or missing parts.
There is an instruction sheet for the model
which is pictorial, and it has a list of parts. The only
thing it misses is a reeving diagram for the large hook, although this
straightforward. Various mirrors have
to be fitted.
Detail
The carrier chassis
models the structure well, and the drive transmission is modelled in plastic. The
wheels are different on the driven and non-driven axles, and
the tyres have a good tread pattern with 'Michelin' in
the sidewalls.
The carrier
cab has beacon lights and very good detailing, and there
is an attachment point for the hook block during
transport. Various mirrors are plastic and would
have looked better in black rather than grey, and with
silvered surfaces.
Behind the cab the exhaust has a mesh enclosure, and
there is a holder for the single line hook although it
can only store it upside down. The deck has
various ladders and other parts detailed. A high point
of the carrier is the detailing including many small
graphics and replica rubber skirts above the wheels.
At the rear there is a very good tool box with replica
timbers stored inside.
The outriggers are single stage at the front and two
stage at the rear, with the inner stage of the rear
outriggers being tough plastic
with an excellent colour match. There are
graphics with individual post numbers. The outrigger pistons are smooth when extended,
and the pads are plastic.
The crane cab has a windscreen wiper and
signal lights, and the
grab rails are metal. Inside, the detail is good with a large control console
and joysticks visible. Behind the cab the steps
and walkway have a textured surface in metal with the
top handrail modelled in plastic.
The counterweight is accurately modelled in separate
parts. One section has the Liebherr name embossed
and there are chevron graphics and useable lifting eyes.
The large main boom ram has a plastic jacket
and it has a very close colour match to the metal parts. The boom has detail on the lowest boom section
including a plastic cable drum. Each telescopic
section has graphics applied and there are metal
sheaves in the boom head.
The fly jib is a very nice metal lattice casting
with a plastic solid section which has an excellent colour match. All sheaves are metal.
The
main hook block has three sheaves and a single line hook
is also included. A Liebherr flag is provided as a
load although it does not hang so well off the main
block.
Features
The
front and rear axle pairs are linked. All axles
steer with a very good range of movement and different
steering modes can be replicated.
The crane deck has multiple ladders which can be rotated
and lowered to provide access to the deck.
The handrail on the crane body can be folded for
transport or raised when in service.
The outriggers have extending beams and pistons that
screw down without any visible screw threads. Plastic
pads clip on securely. The outrigger pistons have
enough movement to pose the crane wheels-free.
The crane cab tilts and can hold any pose.
It has an extending walkway platform.
The boom is raised using the large ram
which has a
locking mechanism. The collar rotates and is used
to clamp and unclamp the piston. It works well when fully tightened.
The telescopic sections extend smoothly and lock into
place at approximately 50%, 90% and 100%.
The winch drum is turned by finger on
the drum, and the brake is by means of friction rather
than a positive lock.
The fly jib can be installed
at half or full length. It also has a ratchet for
setting offset angles of 20° or 40°.
Quality
It is a strong model which is both heavy and
robust. Plastic is used appropriately.
The paintwork is very good as are the many graphics.
Price
It is a reasonable price for a five axle crane.
Overall
This is an excellent model of the LTM 1110-5.1.
It is very functional and it is pleasing to see the high
level of detail achieved by the addition of small
graphics.
It would also look great in company colours.
Footnotes
The model became available in April 2021. |
