Comment on this model.

The Case D Series crawler excavators were introduced at the Intermat 2015 Exhibition.  The CX250D was the smallest of the series.

The version modelled here is the standard boom. The total operating weight is around 25 tonnes.

Packaging

Surprisingly the packaging is a Conrad branded rather than Case branded.  Inside, the model is protected by foam rubber wrapping.

The review model had no defects or missing parts.

The only assembly required is the addition of two mirrors.  There is no information about the real machine or the model included.

Detail

The tracks are metal and they sit on track frames which are reasonably detailed.  The rivet on the main drive sprocket is large but as it is not bright brass it is less obtrusive on this version of the model.  There is no detailing underneath.

The body is metal so the model is heavy.  The casting has a reasonable level of detail within it, and the counterweight is updated to reflect the real machine, as does the layout of the metal handrails.  Graphics are used to represent the grilles.

The cab has a detailed interior and there are two mirrors.  Neither have silvered surfaces and are not circular as seen on the real machine. The plastic cab guard looks good.

The boom and stick are metal castings and the hydraulics detailing is very good with hoses running to the rams on the boom and arm.

The bucket is a nice casting.

Features

The tracks roll quite smoothly and the drive sprocket on each frame is spring loaded to maintain tension.

The model is stable at maximum reach and the cylinders are stiff enough to hold the boom and stick at any angle.

It makes a very good transport load on a suitable heavy haulage vehicle.

Quality

This is a strong robust model with relatively little plastic.

The paintwork and graphics are very good.

Price

The model is reasonable value.

Overall

This model is a modest update of the previous version in order to reflect the latest CX250D.   It is more than cosmetic with different handrails and counterweight, and a bit more added detail would have been good.
