Comment on this model.

The Sandvik UH440i is a mobile crushing unit fitted with a cone crusher which has an operating weight of 47 tonnes.  The rated capacity is 350 metric tonnes per hour.

Packaging

The model comes in a box with an excellent photo of the real machine extending over two sides.  One side of the box includes interesting information about the real machine.  Inside, the model is securely packed within expanded polystyrene trays.

The review model had no defects or missing parts.

No instructions are provided and assembly is limited to attaching a few small parts.

Detail

The tracks are rubberised plastic although they look fine.  They are mounted on solid track frames which do not have moving rollers.

The chassis is of very solid construction and is all in metal with Sandvik graphics printed on the side.

The hopper is a large part with a metal frame and plastic grey side containment panels.  Inside the hopper sides there is a rubberised coating and plastic deflector frame and both provide protection during loading on the real machine.  The conveyor belt is a nice rubber part.

Around the middle of the machine there are metal handrails which look good.  Painted areas denote walking surfaces.  The cone crusher assembly is metal with a plastic sensor boom.

The engine covers are metal with cast grille detail.  The signal post is metal with four floodlights and painted signals.

The main conveyor has a nicely cast structure with some good details contained within it, and the rubber belt is really good considering its length.  The dust suppression cover on top is good quality plastic.

Features

The tracks roll well.

The feed conveyor can be stowed in a transport position or raised into a work position using a hydraulic cylinder.  The conveyor can be rotated by hand.

The interior of the cone crusher can be rotated.

Gates in the handrails can be opened.

The main conveyor can be fixed in one of four elevations by using the supplied plastic pins.  The belt can be rotated by hand.

Quality

The model is well made and very robust, with limited use of plastic.

The paintwork and graphics are very good.

Price

It is relatively pricey reflecting the high metal content.

Overall

This model is heavy and solid and this alone accurately reflects the nature of the real machine.  Details are good and the functionality is very good.

Footnotes

The model first appeared at the end of 2013 and was initially available only from the Sandvik shop.  It was more widely released in 2014.
