Comment on this model.
The Liebherr R 954 C Crawler Excavator is a machine with
an operating weight in the range 49-62 tonnes.
This model is commissioned by Heavy Transport Models
(HTM) and is made for them by Conrad.
It is in the colours of
Jean Harzheim, a
German company founded in 1888.
Packaging
The model comes in a Liebherr branded box and inside it
is contained within a foam wrapping.
A label at the end of the box has a small picture of the
model.
The review model had no defects or missing parts.
There is no information supplied about
the
real machine. No instructions are supplied.
Detail
The metal tracks are the narrower version and are individually linked.
They are
mounted on track frames which are single-piece castings
without any moving rollers.
The cab has door hinges detailed and there is a good
metal grab rail although no mirrors or wipers. A
large plastic falling object protection grille covers
the windscreen and roof. The
interior detail is fairly simple. The body casting is
good with grilles and mostly metal grab rails all
around, and the Liebherr name is nicely cast in relief.
The engine cover is plastic. At the rear there are
some painted lights, the exhaust pipe is solid rather
than having a hole, and at the front there is a metal mirror
which is not silvered. The Harzheim graphics are
sharp and clear.
There are plastic hydraulic lines at the boom foot, and
also at the tool cylinder. Other casting details on the
boom and stick add to the realism and the colour match
of the plastic hydraulic cylinder jackets to the metal
parts is reasonably good.
The sorting grab is metal with the pinned connection point
on the stick being plastic. It has some good
detailing with small hydraulic cylinders modelled inside.
The combination crusher is all metal except for the quick coupler
and is quite heavy. It looks good with sharp teeth.
Features
The tracks roll well and are mounted on spring-loaded
idlers so the tension is good and they are easily removed
if required.
It rotates and the boom and stick have a very good range
of movement. The hydraulic
cylinders are stiff so the model can be posed in any
position.
The sorting grab is removable from the stick by taking
out a pin, and it can also be pulled off its push-fit
connection to the quick coupler. It opens and closes with the two sides
cleverly linked together so that they move in unison.
The combination crusher rotates and opens and closes
also. It can also be separated from the quick
connector.
Quality
This is another robust version of the R 954 C from
Conrad. It is well
made with a high metal content.
The paintwork and graphics are good.
Price
The model is a limited edition and is reasonable value.
Overall
Although this model is based on an old casting it is a
slightly improved with the quick connector allowing an
easy change of tools.
Footnotes
This model in Harzheim colours first appeared in July
2013.
