The Putzmeister M 42-5RZ has a vertical reach of 41.6m
and a horizontal reach of 37.3m. Depending on the pump
it has an output of up to 160m³. The gross
vehicle weight is under 32 tonnes.
It is mounted on a MAN
TGS 8x4 chassis.
This model has been given an 'L' series designation in
the Conrad numbering system which indicates reduced
functionality.
Packaging
The model comes in a smart looking Putzmeister branded
box and it is good to see that it has technical
information about the real machine on the sides. The model
is wrapped in foam rubber and it had no defects or missing parts.
Although there are no instructions the only assembly is to fit door mirrors and a roof
aerial.
Detail
The transmission and suspension is modelled largely in
plastic, with
a short length of drive shaft missing because of the
steering mechanism. The wheels look good although the
tyres appear the same on all axles.
The cab has
door mirrors and an aerial, and the interior is fairly
basic.
The front outrigger beams are two stage and are a mix of
metal and plastic with the colour match on the plastic
part being slightly off. The large rear beams are metal
and have hydraulic fluid coolers detailed on the inside
faces. The pad cylinders are smooth rather than with
screw thread so they look good. Plastic spreader
plates are also supplied which is a nice touch.
The body sides look very good even though the lower
parts are plastic, and the deck surfaces are textured to
represent a non-slip walkway, and there are fine metal
handrails. Large grey plastic tubes represent the
stiff frame and towards the rear there is the large pump
assembly. The hopper has a neat grille.
The boom is impressive as it is all metal with a rubber
hose at the end, and there are some very good
Putzmeister elephant graphics.
Features
The front pair of axles has linked steering with a very
good range of movement and the rear axles have some
suspension movement.
The outriggers fold out to form a star formation and the
pads can be pulled down and will support the model off
the wheels. The plastic spreader plates clip to
the rear outrigger posts for storage when the truck is
on the road.
The articulated boom opens and rotates and the full range of
movement of the original machine can be replicated on
the model, and it is stable with the outriggers out.
The hopper lid opens and closes.
Quality
This is a well made model with a high metal content.
It looks attractive in the Putzmeister paint scheme and
the graphics are very good.
Price
The price is reasonable given the complexity and metal
content.
Overall
Overall this is a good quality model with the paintwork
and graphics adding to a striking look. Although
it is listed as a reduced functionality model in
practice this only means that the cab does not tilt.
The boom can be posed many ways, either being
transported or set up. It is highly recommended.
Footnotes
The model appeared at the Nuremberg Toy Fair in 2012.
