Comment on this model.
The Putzmeister M 38-5 has a vertical
reach of 37.5m and a horizontal reach of 32.8m.
Depending on the pump it has an output of up to 160m³.
It is mounted on a MAN TGS 6x4 chassis and the placing
boom has five arms for increased flexibility.
This model has been given an 'L' series designation in
the Conrad numbering system which indicates reduced
functionality.
Packaging
The model comes in a Putzmeister
branded box and it is wrapped in foam rubber.
There is technical information about the real machine on
the sides of the box.
The review model had no defects or missing parts.
Although there are no instructions the
only assembly is to fit door mirrors, a roof aerial and
attach the clip-on spreader plates.
Detail
The transmission and suspension is modelled largely in
plastic, with
the
steering modelled for functionality. The wheels look good although the
tyres appear the same on all axles.
The cab has
door mirrors and an aerial, and the interior is fairly
basic. Two Putzmeister graphics are on the front
but surprisingly there are no windscreen wipers.
The front outrigger beams are single stage
metal as are the large rear beams which also have hydraulic fluid coolers detailed on the inside
faces. The pad pistons are smooth rather than with
screw thread so they look good. Plastic spreader plates
are also supplied.
The body sides look very good even though the lower
parts are plastic, and the deck surfaces are textured to
represent a non-slip walkway. Lifting eyes are
modelled at the front. The
handrails are metal and look good. Large grey plastic tubes represent the
stiff frame and towards the rear there is the large pump
assembly. The hopper has a neat grille.
The boom is nice as it is all metal with a rubber
hose at the end, and there are some very good Putzmeister elephant graphics.
The colour match on the plastic hydraulic rams jackets
is good.
Features
The front axle has excellent steering with a very
good range of movement and the rear axles have some
suspension movement.
The outriggers fold out to form a star formation and the
pads can be pulled down and will support the model off
the wheels. The plastic spreader plates clip to
the rear outrigger posts for storage when the truck is
on the road.
The articulated boom opens and rotates and the full range of
movement of the original machine can be replicated.
It is stable with the outriggers out.
The hopper lid opens and closes.
Quality
This is another well-made concrete pump model
from Conrad with a high metal content.
The Putzmeister paint scheme is applied well and
the graphics are very good.
Price
It is fair value for money.
Overall
Concrete pump models are interesting and this one
from Conrad is typically strong and robust. Many
different poses are possible and it is highly recommended.
Footnotes
The model
first appeared at the BAUMA Exhibition in 2013.
