Comment on this model.

This model is from the Corgi Hauliers of Renown series.  It is a Mercedes-Benz 6x2 Actros tractor with a three-axle Clayton tanker trailer.

It is in the colours of the Scottish haulier William Nicol, which started in business in 1935.

Packaging

The model box is high quality Corgi packaging with a gloss finish and photo of the model.  Inside, the model is held in an expanded polystyrene tray with a clear plastic lid.

There was no damage or missing parts on the review model.

Included with the model is a Collector Card which gives some background to the livery.  It also has the unique serial number for the model within the production run.

The only assembly required is to attach the mirrors and aerials to the cab.

Detail

The Mercedes-Benz Actros 6x2 is relatively heavy as it is nearly all metal.  Underneath there is some simple detailing of the transmission system but the steering is not modelled.  The tyres are the same on each wheel and the wheels are nicely detailed.

The Actros cab has roof aerials, a solid roof light and a good light bar.  The grille at the front is convincing.  The door mirrors are colour coded and the quality of the graphics is very good.

Behind the cab, there are metal wheel arches and a set of black air lines.  At the rear the light clusters are painted plastic and the mud flaps are rendered in very thin flexible plastic.

The tanker is a little lighter than expected with a number of plastic elements.  Underneath the trailer the metal structure is simple as is the modelling of the suspension.  The wheels and tyres look smart.  The frame of the landing legs is metal with plastic cam feet.

The tank has a mirror finish with painted plastic ends, however the look is really very good with a consistent finish and very sharp graphics.  Walkways, ladders and pipes on the top and sides are plastic but it is decent quality with some nice detailing.  The hazardous load warning signs add to the realistic appearance.

Features

The tractor rolls smoothly but does not have working steering.

The tanker can detach from the gooseneck but there are no holes to enable the airlines from the tractor to be attached.

The cam feet on the legs can be rotated up or down.

Quality

The tractor has a high metal content with the tanker having more plastic.

The graphics and paintwork are excellent.

Price

It offers reasonable value.

Overall

Overall this is a very good looking model and the quality of the paint and graphics really makes the difference.  It is easy to recommend.
