This truck is a Western Star 4900 with a McNeilus
Bridgemaster Mixer. It has both a pusher axle and
a tag axle.
It is in a Western Star decoration.
Packaging
The packaging consists of a cardboard outer shipping
carton which encloses a very high quality drawer-style tray
within a picture sleeve.
There were no defects or missing parts on the review
model.
Included with the model are a few parts to add to the
model. The box has some details of the real truck.
Detail
The chassis has the engine,
gearbox and transmission detailed in plastic, but it
looks good. The
chromed tanks and boxes have black highlights, and there are
soft mud flaps. The plastic wheels are
detailed and there are different tyres on the various
axle types.
The front grille is very good and there is a tiny
Western Star badge
at the top. The lights and front bumper look nice
also, although there is no number plate as this is a
generic truck.
Around the cab the chrome work is very good and the
mirrors are plastic. The steps are textured.
The exhaust stacks are very detailed and inside the cab
the seats have the Western Star logo printed on.
There is an array of lights and horns on the roof.
The mixer drum is metal and it shines with its metallic
paint finish, and excellent Western Star graphics give
the model a striking look.
At the front of the mixer the motor and tank are
modelled and tiny graphics add to the authentic
appearance.
The long wheel arch has tiny graphics along the edges.
At the back there is a plastic access ladder and
platform at the hopper and they have bars which are
realistically thin. The chute and extensions have
detailed graphics.
Features
The steering has a limited range of movement, and the
model rolls well.
The hood tilts forward to about 45° and can pose in a
tilted position. The engine underneath is detailed.
The pusher axle can be raised out of service and it also
steers to a very good angle. At the rear the tag
axle can be lowered.
The access ladder to the hopper platform can be folded
down.
The drum spins freely.
The chute has a small amount of up and down movement.
Up to three extension chutes can be clipped on, and the
chute can be rotated from side to side.
Quality
This model is well made and relatively heavy.
Plastic is used appropriately.
The paintwork and graphics are to a high standard.
Price
It is good value.
Overall
This is a high quality truck model by Diecast Masters.
It has plenty of functionality to match the detailing,
and it looks great in the Western Star decoration.
