Being loaded.

The Belaz 75170 Dump Truck has an unladen weight of 134 tonnes and can carry a payload of 160 tonnes.

Belaz is a long established company based in Belarus.

The model maker is not stated but is believed to be the Yu Lee Corporation.

Packaging

The model comes in the substantial packaging.  There is an outer shipping carton which contains a tin which is protected by big expanded polystyrene spacers.  The tin is high quality and includes pictures and details about the real machine.

The review model had no missing parts or defects.

Detail

The chassis is suitably heavy duty and the rear axle cover and engine and other components are modelled in plastic with an excellent colour match.  The wheels are plastic with decent detail and the tyres have a deep tread pattern.  Soft mud flaps hang down.

At the front the large grille is a plastic moulding which is not perforated.  The lights have plastic lenses and there is a nicely embossed Belaz name above the radiator.  Wheel chock frames are modelled on each side.  The access ladders up to the cab deck are plastic.

The cab deck has a plain surface and the cabinets and equipment are plain also and some highlighting would have added to the appearance.  The metal cab has two seats in the interior.  The handrails are metal and nicely thin and the mirrors are modelled well with silvered surfaces. At the front on each side there are tiny etched grilles.

At the back the rear axle looks impressive including two large suspension dampers.

The dump body is solidly made.  There is nice ribbing at the front and inside a plastic plate is used.  The graphics on the side are smart.  At the back there are small lights and rock deflectors hang down between the wheel pairs.   The lift rams are two stage with the middle section being grey plastic rather than silvered.

Features

The wheels roll easily and it is nice that each of the rear tyres rolls separately.

The steering is very good with a decent range.  The rear axle has working suspension which is effective.

The dump body raises to a reasonable angle, and the rams are stiff enough to hold most poses.

Quality

This is a good quality heavy model and where plastic is used it has an excellent colour match.

The paint is very good and the graphics are sharp.

Price

It is fair value for a nicely presented large model.

Overall

It is good to see a large mining model of a Belaz machine.  It is packaged very well and has a pleasing appearance with good functionality.

Footnotes
