| Comment on this model.
The Caterpillar 390F L Hydraulic Excavator weighs around 92 tonnes. It is used for large earthmoving operations.
Packaging
The model comes in exemplary packaging. There is an outer shipping carton which contains a tin which is protected by a nylon bag. The tin is high quality and includes pictures and details about the real machine.
The review model had no missing parts or defects.
There is no information for the model, but a mini catalogue of the Diecast Masters range is included.
Detail
The undercarriage is robust and the track frames are reasonably detailed, but without working rollers. The metal crawler tracks have decent track pads.
The cab has got mirrors and lights, and a plastic windscreen guard. Inside there is a fixed-in-place operator wearing bright high visibility clothing.
There are metal textured walkways on the sides and the body details are reasonable with grille indentations. The grab rails and ladders are soft plastic. There are some small warning sign graphics and there is some paint highlighting of filler cabs. There are some plastic elements on the body and the colour match is good, but not perfect.
Soft hydraulic lines run to the boom foot, and plastic pipes and lines run to the cylinders on the boom and stick. Rivets on the boom, stick and bucket are small and painted so they look fine.
The large metal mass excavation bucket is a detailed casting with good wear plates and teeth.
Features
The tracks are spring loaded for tension, and they roll very easily.
It rotates well, but with stiffness in places.
The boom has a restricted range of movement and cannot be fully lowered for digging at depth. The stick and bucket have a good range of movement.
There is an opening doorway and engine cover. The engine cover stays open but can also be propped with a tiny movable prop.
The cab door also opens.
Quality
It is a reasonable quality model which is robust.
The paint is good and the graphics are sharp.
Price
It is moderate value for a large excavator.
Overall
Diecast Masters has produced a beautifully packaged model. The model itself is robust and good looking, with some additional functionality compared to previous mass produced Caterpillar excavator models.
