The Caterpillar 320F L Hydraulic Excavator weighs around
20 tonnes. It is used
for earthmoving, roadwork, and material handling operations.
This version of the model is one of Diecast Masters
weathered series.
Packaging
The model comes in very good packaging. There
is an outer shipping sleeve which encloses a high
quality box.
The review model had no missing parts or defects.
A mini
catalogue of the Diecast Masters range is included.
There is no information about the real machine.
Detail
The
model comes with a heavy resin baseplate to pose the
model on. It has a sandy / stony texture and
colour and it is a nice display piece.
The undercarriage is mainly metal with a plastic
baseplate. The tracks are metal with triple
grouser shoes. They are mounted on decent track
frames with static rollers. The decoration is
weathered and looks more worn than dirty.
The cab has got
plastic mirrors mounted on metal grab rail, and
the wipers are formed within the cab structure. There
is a tinted
top window. Inside there is a fixed-in-place operator
wearing bright high visibility clothing.
The
model is marked by graphics as a Caterpillar 320F L.
The body casting is shaped well and a highlight is the
very small graphics which are very sharp. The
weathering is subtle on the panels. On top the
engine cover is plastic and the hand rails are metal.
Lifting eyes on the counterweight are solid without
holes.
Soft hydraulic lines run up the boom and stick and
graphics and slight weathering
add detail. Rivets on the boom, stick and tools are painted.
The metal bucket is a nice casting and the thumb matches
it. The weathering effect is good.
Features
The tracks roll
reasonably easily, and they are mounted on
spring-loaded idlers to maintain tension.
It rotates reasonably well,
although with some stiffness on the review model.
The boom and stick have a very good range of movement
and it folds up well for transport, and digs at depth
well too. The bucket movement is good.
Quality
It is a robust model with a high metal content.
The paint is good and the graphics are sharp, with the
weathering effect being subtle.
Price
It is reasonable value.
Overall
The model is well presented and the resin base makes for
a nice display addition. The weathering effect is
fairly light, and some may prefer a rather more dirty
look. It poses well with other models.
Footnotes
The model became available in February 2021.
