The Caterpillar 938 is a smaller sized wheel loader.  It weighs around 16 tonnes.

Packaging

The model comes in the usual High Line Series packaging.  There is an outer shipping carton which contains a tin which is protected by a nylon bag.  The tin is high quality and includes pictures and details about the real machine.

The review model had no missing parts or defects.

Detail

The underside has some detailing with the transmission partially modelled. The tyres have a good tread pattern and they are mounted on wheels which have silvered wheel nuts.

At the rear the radiator has a Cat logo and a towing hitch is modelled.  The rear side grilles are formed by graphics.  The exhaust stack is plastic.

The cab is detailed with plastic silvered mirrors.  An optional operator can sit in the cab.

Detail at the pivot point includes the steering rams, and there are some small graphics which add to the appearance.  However, there are no hydraulic hoses visible.   At the front there are lights mounted on plastic stalks.

The hydraulic rams have plastic jackets.  The loader arms are simple and the connection rivets are painted.

The bucket is a metal casting with some texturing.  A lifting beam is included and it is a plastic part.

A plastic figure is included.  It is slightly on the large side and has the Cat logo on the front.

Features

The model rolls very smoothly and there is oscillation of the rear axle.

Steering across the pivot point achieves a moderate angle.

The bucket has a decent carry angle.   The lift height is very good but the tipping angle is a little shallow.

The operator can be installed or left out.

The bucket unclips and a lifting beam can be attached.  It has a telescopic section.

Quality

It is a nice quality model.

The paintwork is very good and the graphics are sharp.

Price

It is fully priced.

Overall

This model of the 938 is to the usual Diecast Masters standard.  It is nicely presented and is well made.

Footnotes

The model was shipped from the end of 2025.
