The Caterpillar 140 Motor Grader has an operating weight
of around 17 tonnes. It is used for
earthmoving, roadwork, and material handling operations
where maintenance of haul roads or accurate levelling of
surfaces is required.
The LVR is the lever version of the machine and has a
steering wheel instead of joystick controls.
Packaging
The model comes in excellent packaging. There is
an outer shipping carton which contains a tin which is
protected by a nylon bag. The tin is high quality
and includes pictures and details about the real
machine.
The review model had no missing parts or defects.
There is no information about the model.
Detail
Looking underneath, the front axle mechanisms are
visible and there is detailing under the circle.
There is simple detailing around the rear axles. The
rubber tyres have a deep tread pattern, and they are mounted on decent plastic
wheels which have highlighted wheel nuts. Wheel
arches are plastic.
At the rear the ripper is metal and the three shanks
have decent teeth. The
connection rivets are painted. The engine
block has metal grab rails and the grilles are formed of
graphics. The level of detailing is very good in this
area.
The cab roof is plastic, and the detail throughout the
cab is good and includes the Cat logo on the seat back,
a detailed console and textured floor. It has a
steering wheel as this is the LVR version of the grader.
The ladders below the cab are soft plastic.
The steering pistons are modelled at the pivot point,
but there are no hydraulics crossing.
The front end has a counterweight fitted and the drawbar
and circle are modelled very well. The moldboard has
wear plate detailing blade. The detailing of the
hydraulics is good with hydraulic hoses running to some
of the rams. The light supports are plastic.
Features
The front axle has moderate steering capability and oscillates up and down. The mechanism to lean
the tyres is modelled, but is non-functional.
The rear wheels are in linked pairs and can also
oscillate significantly.
The grader can steer across the pivot point behind the
cab. The angle is shallow.
At the rear the ripper can be raised and lowered.
The moldboard has a full range of movement. It can be
raised and lowered, and a small amount of side to side
tilt is possible. It can also rotate on the circle, be
extended to one side or the other, and have the face
tilted forwards and backwards a little.
The cab roof is clipped and can be removed. However, the
scaling creates limited space for installing an operator
figure. Figures from the Diecast Masters
Construction Workers set do not fit.
Quality
It is a robust model with a high metal
content, and some plastic parts.
The paintwork is very good, and the graphics are sharp.
Price
It is reasonable value.
Overall
This is a very good model of the Caterpillar 140 LVR.
It models the complex functionality well and has nice
detailing to give an impressive appearance.
Footnotes
The model became available in 2026.
