This review is of a Kenworth C509 Tri-Drive prime
mover. It is an 8x6 sleeper cab configuration. This
version is in a metallic blue colour scheme.
Packaging
The model comes in a cardboard outer shipping
container enclosing a high quality Drake branded box.
The model is contained
within high quality foam..
There were no missing parts or defects on the review model.
A reprinted brochure of the C509 range of Kenworth trucks
and a plastic pointer tool is included.
Detail
This version of the
C509 has an 8x6 chassis with a day cab. The chassis is very detailed with a very
high metal content. The tyres have a
different tread pattern on the front and rear axles, and
the wheels are detailed with flexible rubber mud flaps on all
axles.
At the front is a nice metal bullbar and the radiator
grille behind is excellent.
The cab has a mass of detailed chrome work. Under the
cab is a detailed engine, modelled with many separate components
including hoses and cables. The interior is also very good.
The sleeper cab has a high roof with beacon lights on
top. There is chrome detailing on the sides and
rivet heads are indicated on the back.
The exhaust mufflers have the Kenworth name
and they look great as do the
fuel tanks and stepping platforms. There are coiled lines
for connection to the trailer and excellent non-slip
walking surfaces.
At the rear there are rubberised wheel arches and the
mud flaps have Kenworth printed on.
Features
The front wheels have notched steering and the range of
movement is very good. There is working sprung
suspension on all axles. The lead axle of the tri-drive
seems to clip up out of
service but tends to want to drop so may not be an
intended feature.
The bullbar tilts fully forward and that allows
the hood to fully open.
The cab doors can be
opened and inside the seats have an air ride action and
can be moved up and down.
The turntable has a spring loaded lever to secure a
trailer in position. It can also be adjusted
longitudinally.
Quality
This is high quality model, with a high
metal content.
It has high
quality metallic blue paint work and sharp graphics.
Price
It is good value
for the high quality.
Overall
This version of the C509 maintains the very high
standards of the previous models. In particular
the detailing is first class.
