This review is of a Kenworth W990 Tri-axle Cab and Fontaine Magnitude Tri-axle Lowboy Trailer with Flip axle.  It is in the colours of Mammoet, the worldwide heavy lifting and transportation specialist.

Packaging

The model comes in a Mammoet branded box.  Inside, the model is contained within a pair of plastic formers.

There were no missing parts or defects on the review model.

A simple instruction sheet is included.  Also included is a Mammoet Collect card and small parts.  Some spares are also included.

Detail

The Kenworth chassis is detailed although the screw heads are large.  The engine is coloured and the drive shaft is modelled but not continuous.  The tyres have a decent tread pattern, and the chrome wheels are detailed.

A set of optional stick-on signs are supplied such as 'Oversize Load'.

The radiator grille is excellent and the large chromed bumper has a realistic licence plate.  Under the cab is a detailed engine, made of different parts.  The cab interior is also good.  The roof of the cab has painted beacon lights, and other lights and air horns.

There is a chromed exhaust stack, and the chrome fuel tanks look very good.  The cab windows are not 'glazed'. The red and black colour scheme is crisply rendered and there are graphics on the bodywork including a fleet number.

Detailing behind the cab includes coiled lines and chains although they appear large for the scale.  There is an excellent non-slip walking surface and at the rear the lights are painted, with Mammoet printed on the mud glaps.

The Fontaine trailer gooseneck is excellent with modelled equipment on top and an impressive array of sharp graphics.

The deck has plastic replica timber surfacing and there are plastic fold out brackets to extend the width along the edges.  However, extension planks are not included.

At the rear there are graphics applied.

Load tie-down straps and small marker flags are a nice inclusion with the model.

Features

The Kenworth's front axle wheels have notched steering with a reasonable range of movement.

The engine cover tilts forwards to reveal the detailed engine.

The ‘fifth wheel’ tilts although it sits high.  The helper axle is raised permanently out of service.

The gooseneck can be detached from the trailer deck.  The flip axle can be posed up or in service although it cannot be locked in the service position.

Tie-downs, flags and signs can be fitted.

Quality

This is nice quality model, with a good metal content.

It has excellent paintwork and graphics.

Price

It is fully priced given the scale.

Overall

It is interesting to see a Mammoet model in 1:64 scale and it will appeal to the collector market in the US in particular.  It is a nice looking model with not too many compromises to suit the smaller scale.
