This review is of a model of a Mack RD800 6x4 from the year 1990.

It is in the colours of De Berardinis Heavy Haul of Florida, USA.  This truck is known as 'Big Kenny'.

Packaging

It comes in an outer shipping carton which encloses a Mack branded box.  The model is held within a pair of factory sealed expanded polystyrene trays.

There were no missing parts or defects on the review model.

Included is a plastic pointer and a bag containing spare mirrors is a thoughtful touch.

There is no information about the real truck or model.

Detail

The chassis is very detailed with the engine and gearbox visible, and hoses run to the rear axles.  The tyres have a good tread pattern, and the wheels are very detailed with flexible rubber mud flaps.

At the front the radiator has a gold bulldog mascot on top, and the decoration is excellent with an accurate number plate.  There is a non-functional towing hitch.  More excellent graphics are present on the sides of the hood, which also has modelled tie-down straps.  The engine under the hood is made up of a number of different parts.

The cab has very thin windscreen wipers and chrome mirrors.  The interior is also detailed.  There is more exceptional decoration on the doors.

The air intake and exhaust stack are really good, and the fuel tanks also look great.  Behind the cab there is a cabinet which has 'Big Kenny' printed on it.

There are lines for connection to a trailer and excellent non-slip walking surfaces.  At the rear there are lights and another towing hitch.

The ballast tray is modelled with replica concrete blocks.  There are tie-down chains at the ends.

Features

The front wheels steer, with the steering being 'notched' rather than variable. The range of movement is very good.  There is working sprung suspension on all axles.

The twin engine covers open to reveal the detailed engine.  Tiny prop rods can be used to support the covers.

The cab doors can be opened and inside the seats have an air ride action and can be moved up and down.

The fifth wheel has a spring loaded lever to secure a trailer in position.  It can also be adjusted longitudinally.

The ballast tray can be attached, or left off.

Quality

This is high quality model, with a high metal content.

The paint work and graphics are first class and capture the hand painted graphics on the real truck really well.

Price

It is a premium priced model which is good value for the high quality.

Overall

As a new entrant in high end diecast modelling Heavy Haul Replicas has produced an excellent model, with the quality of the graphics particularly standing out.
