This review is of a model of a Mack RD800
Tandem Axle Tractor.
It is in a green over black colour scheme.
Packaging
It comes in an outer shipping carton which encloses a
Mack branded box. The model is held within a pair of factory sealed expanded polystyrene trays.
There were no missing parts or defects on the review model.
Included is a plastic
pointer and a bag containing spare mirrors is a
thoughtful touch.
There is no information about the real truck or model.
Detail
The chassis is very detailed with
the engine and gearbox visible, and hoses run to the
rear axles. The tyres have a good tread pattern
which is similar on all wheels. The plastic wheels are very detailed with flexible rubber mud
flaps.
At the front the radiator has a silver bulldog mascot on top, and the
grille looks great. There is no number plate as
this is a generic model.
There is an Oversize Load sign. The sides of the
hood have modelled tie-down straps. The
engine under the hood is made up of a number of
different parts.
The cab has very thin windscreen wipers and chrome
mirrors, and there are air horns and lights on the
roof. The interior is also detailed.
Textured steps lead up to the cab and they are formed
into the fuel tanks.
Behind the cab there is a single exhaust stack, and an
etched screen protects the rear window. There is a
modelled winch with silver coloured rope and a tiny
hook.
There are lines for connection to a trailer and textured
half wheel arches. The fifth wheel has a locking
lever. At the rear there are lights with plastic
lenses and
the mud flaps have a Mack logo.
Features
The front wheels steer, with the steering
being 'notched' rather than
variable. The range of movement is very good.
There is working sprung suspension on all axles.
The
twin engine covers open to reveal the detailed
engine. Tiny prop rods can be used to support the
covers.
The cab doors
can be opened and inside the seats have an air ride
action and can be moved up and down.
The fifth wheel has a spring loaded lever to secure a
trailer in position. It can also be adjusted
longitudinally.
The winch can be operated by finger.
Quality
This is high quality model, with a high
metal content.
The paint work and graphics are very good.
Price
It is
a premium priced model which is reasonable value
for the high quality.
Overall
This is a high quality replica of a Mack truck and poses
very well with a suitable trailer.
Footnotes
This model appeared in September 2023.
