This review is of a model of a Mack RD822SX 6x4 from the
year 1994.
It is in the colours of
Mammoet, the Dutch lifting and heavy haul specialist.
This model represents the real truck as it appears as a
Show Truck.
Packaging
It comes in an outer shipping carton which encloses a
Mammoet branded box. The model is held within a pair of factory sealed expanded polystyrene trays.
There were no missing parts or defects on the review model.
Included is a plastic pointer tool and a bag containing spare
mirrors and many other parts.
There is a Mammoet Collector Card and a really nice
inclusion is a replica of a board that would be
displayed with the truck during a show.
Detail
The chassis is very detailed with
the engine and gearbox visible, and hoses run to the
rear axles. The tyres have a good tread pattern
although they lack sidewall branding, and the wheels are
very detailed with tiny Mack logos on the rear wheel
hubs. There are flexible rubber mud
flaps.
At the front the radiator
has a gold bulldog mascot on top, and excellent Mack
lettering. There is a useable towing hitch. More
excellent graphics are present on the sides of the hood,
which also has modelled tie-down straps. The
engine under the hood is made up of a number of
different parts.
The cab has very thin windscreen wipers and chrome
mirrors. The interior is also detailed. There
are Mammoet graphics on the doors.
The air intake and exhaust stacks are really good, and
the
fuel tanks also look great. Behind
the cab there is a rack with a winch that has realistic
looking steel cable, and chains on the sides.
There are excellent textured
walking surfaces. At the rear there are lights and
another towing hitch.
The ballast tray is modelled with a replica tarpaulin
cover made of plastic. There are tie-down chains at
one end.
A large number of parts are included which can be stored
in the ballast box including cones, signs, flags,
timbers and more.
An excellent metal display board is included and this
has some history of the truck. It fits into a
display stand.
Features
The front wheels steer, with the steering
being 'notched' and achieving an excellent angle.
There is working sprung suspension on all axles.
The twin engine covers open to reveal the detailed
engine.
The cab doors
can be opened and inside the seats have an air ride
action and can be moved up and down.
The fifth wheel has a spring loaded lever to secure a
trailer in position. It can also be adjusted
longitudinally.
The ballast tray can be attached, or left off.
The front towing hitch has a removable pin. The
rear hitch has a tiny working latch which is remarkable
given the scale of the model.
Quality
This is very high quality model, with a high
metal content.
The paint work and graphics are top notch.
Price
It is
a premium priced model which is good value
for the high quality.
Overall
This is an excellent model of a heritage truck and a
great addition to the Mammoet models range. It is
not a cheap model but you get what you pay for.
Footnotes
This model appeared in October 2024 in a run of 1000
models.
