The Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 is an
8-axle crane rated at 450 tonnes capacity.
This version of the model is in the colours of
Baldwins, which is a UK company. It is 1:87 scale.
Packaging
The model comes in a Liebherr-branded box design with the
model held within a pair of clear plastic formers.
There
were no defects or missing parts on the review model.
There is no information on the real machine included,
and no instructions for the model, although assembly is straightforward.
Detail
The carrier is good with rubber tyres on the detailed
wheels. The underside has detailing of the
transmission.
At the front the driving cab has
wipers and door mirrors. There is a realistic number
plate and the cab has interior detail also. The detail behind
the cab shows the major components including an exhaust
pipe. At the rear
the carrier has painted lights and a toolbox.
The outrigger beams are plastic with chevron graphics
applied.
The crane body has graphics applied and the cab
has interior detail.
The counterweight tray is a metal part and the counterweight
is made up of separate hollowed pieces.
The boom has a metal bottom section and there is one
section able to be telescoped which is made of plastic.
The white of the plastic section is brighter than the
white of metal parts. The small pulleys appear to
be plastic with the main block of them being solid.
The hook is a single line block which does not really
fit the heavy lift nature of the crane.
Features
The model rolls well in a straight line but there is no steering functionality.
Not all wheels were grounded on the review model.
The plastic outriggers are two stage which is an achievement
given the scale.
Although the pistons and pads cannot be lowered
directly, the beams could be pulled down on the review
model to give contact with the ground. It would
have been nice if some spreader plates were
included with the model.
The counterweight tray is a separate part which pins
into position and it can be posed on the carrier deck to
replicate self-ballasting.
The boom has one working telescopic section.
The boom can be raised and the rams are stiff
enough to hold the boom up.
A working winch can be operated using a key.
Quality
The model has plastic elements.
The paintwork is good
and the graphics are very good.
Price
The model is
reasonable value.
Overall
Although the smaller 1:87 scale results in some
compromises, this is a good model from IMC. The
two stage outriggers and separate counterweights are
plus points, and the overall look is good.
Footnotes
The model first appeared in Liebherr colours in
May 2019. This version of the model appeared in
December 2019.
