Detail
The Actros has a detailed 8x4 chassis
with detailed steering. The
transmission components are modelled and the tyres are different on the steering and driven axles.
The wheels are very detailed.
There is a towing hitch at the front.
The cab has air horns and aerials on the roof together
with a nice light bar. The Actros grille is impressive
and it has a fixed Bred last sign. The many graphics
are very sharp but unusually there is no fleet number on
the cab. There is a realistic number
plate.
Behind the cab the big equipment tower has cabinets in
front. There are
coiled lines and. diamond plated surfaces at the base of
the tower. A driver is included as a separate
part.
At the rear the lights have lenses and the mud flaps
have graphics.
The Super Wing Carrier is a heavy part.
Underneath, there are tanks visible and hydraulic
landing legs. A spare wheel is fitted and the side
bars are metal. The axle units are also metal and
they are fitted with detailed wheels.
The front of the gooseneck is highly detailed and
includes tiny graphics. A Mammoet fleet number is
included on the side of the gooseneck. A tiny
control panel is located at the bottom.
The trailer deck includes plastic replica timber inserts
and sliding rails on top. Highlighted bolt
locations sit over the axle unit locations. The
edges have a stripe and highlighted tie-down loops.
At the rear there is more high detail including Mammoet
and Nooteboom logos.
Two alternative wing support brackets are included for
the front. At the rear the complex frame and clamp
is part metal and part plastic with an excellent colour
match.
Features
The Actros has reasonable steering movement available on
the front axles.
A separate fifth wheel is provided so the tractor can
accommodate trailers with a larger kingpin.
The cab has opening doors. These work well, and
open to a good angle.
The trailer axle units have linked steering which is
proportional. They have large vertical
displacement which can be pinned to set the trailer deck
and beam high.
At the front the complex gooseneck can be adjusted to
raise the height to match the rear axles.
The gooseneck has drop down landing legs which can be
pinned. The rear of the trailer has hydraulic
landing legs which work well.
The trailer extends massively using the four section
telescopic spine beam. It can be pinned and locked
at varying extensions.
The rear support cradle slides smoothly on its rails,
and the clamp can be opened and closed, and locked.
Quality
This is a high quality model with a high metal
content.
The paint finish and graphics are also high quality.
Price
It is a complex highly engineered limited edition model, and is priced
accordingly.
Overall
This is a stunning heavy haulage model when
fully extended and loaded with a wing.
It combines great detailing and functionality and the
only challenge for a collector is accommodating the
fully extended length of around 1.25m. Of course,
it can also be displayed not extended.
Footnotes
The model appeared at Bauma in October 2022 and was
made in a run of 750 models.
