This is a model of the Faun Goliath 8x8 in the colours
of ALE (Abnormal Load Engineering).
The real truck was one of three manufactured in the late
1980s for the movement of heavy transport loads in the
UK.
This model is modelled in resin, and has no diecast
parts.
Packaging
The model comes in a Mammoet-branded sleeve
which encloses a perspex display case.
The review model had no missing parts or defects.
A uniquely numbered Mammoet certificate is
included, but there is a nice booklet describing the
history of the real
truck.
Detail
The model comes in a good quality display case and the
base has the unique serial number for the model in the
production run.
There is a detailed chassis with the drive shafts and
axles being detailed. The tyres have the same
tread pattern and there is no branding on the sidewalls.
At the front is an excellent grille with high quality
graphics. There is an STGO sign and chevrons on
the bumper, and a realistic number plate. The
towing hitch is complex.
A particular highlight is the exceptionally thin
handrails and grab rails around the model.
The cab continues the high detail with the steering
wheel being in the accurate left hand drive formation,
and the rest of the interior is very good.
Door handles are detailed, and there is a beacon light
bar on the roof.
Behind the cab there are twin exhausts and spare wheel
with lifting frame. A winch is also modelled.
The ballast box has a replica tarpaulin top and finely
detailed tie-down ropes.
At the rear the lights have lenses and there is another
complex towing hitch.
Features
As a resin model there is very limited functionality.
The model can be carefully removed from the display case
to display on its own or as part of a diorama.
The wheels rotate and the model rolls smoothly.
Quality
This is a high quality model with exceptional
detailing.
The paint finish and graphics are also high quality.
Price
It is a limited edition and is reasonable
value.
Overall
The use of resin allows a much hire level of
detailing than is usually seen in diecast models.
This model of the Faun Goliath looks great and is a
fitting replica of the original truck.
Footnotes
The model appeared in October 2023 and was made in a
run of 500 models.
