Ready for work.  Counterweight extended.

The Gottwald AMK 126-63 mobile crane was a successful mobile crane which entered service in Mammoet colours in 1983.

The real crane had a capacity in the 100 tonne class which was groundbreaking at the time for a six axle crane.

Packaging

The model comes in a box enclosed within a Mammoet-branded outer sleeve with a secondary box having foam rubber inside.

There were no missing parts on the review model.  A part was detached during shipping and had to be refixed.

The model comes with a numbered Mammoet Collector Card.

A simple instruction sheet includes information about the main boom rams and counterweight.  There is no reeving information.

There is no information about the real crane.

Detail

The chassis is detailed, with the transmission system represented in plastic.

The tyres have a decent tread pattern with branding in the side walls, and the wheels have different hubs for driven and non-driven axles.

The carrier cab has door mirrors, windscreen wipers, and beacon lights. There are printed headlights.  Interior detailing is good.

Behind the carrier cab the engine area has a mesh grille, and the decoration on the sides is sharp.

At the rear of the carrier is a towing hitch.

The outrigger beams are two stage with the inner section being tough plastic.  The outrigger pads are metal but cannot be attached to the screw thread pistons so in transport mode it looks best to remove the pistons.

The crane cab has a plastic grab rail and a decent interior.

The crane body has some graphics and detailing with plastic parts, and there is a mesh grille at the rear.  Many hydraulic hoses give a realistic appearance.  There is metal hand railing on the crane body.

Part of the counterweight can be separated if required.

The main boom rams have metal jackets although the grub screws that lock the extension are over long so look slightly odd.

The boom sections have good looking wall thicknesses and the overall profile is good.  Detailing on the lowest boom section includes spooling drums.  The boom head has separate silver metal pulleys.

A large hook block is included which has a separate plastic top cover.

Features

A
ll wheels spin freely enough and there is independent steering on axles 1, 2, 3 and 6 which works well.

The outriggers can be extended and lowered, and the model can be supported wheels-free but there is lack of straightness so it is best to pose the model with the wheels grounded.

The crane rotates without rocking.

The counterweight can be detached and posed in transport mode by removing small pins.

In service, the counterweight position can be extended out at a greater radius.

Raising the boom is easy with the locking mechanism on the main boom rams using a key to tighten grub screws on the jacket tops.

Telescoping the boom works well and each section can be locked at about 50% and 100% extension.

A key is also used to operate the winches and they rely on friction to hold a load.  However, the hook is awkward to reeve and the rope easily jumps over the shallow grooves in the sheaves.

Quality

This is a very detailed model.  A number of parts are plastic with 3D printing used for some pieces.  As such it does not match the highest quality of the best modern models.

The paintwork and graphics are generally very good.

Price

It is moderate value for a limited edition model.

Overall

It is great to see a model of this historic Gottwald crane and Kranlab has generally made a very good job of it.  This version looks smart in Mammoet colours and only on close inspection does the plastic nature of some parts not match that of high quality diecast.

Footnotes

The model first appeared at Bauma in April 2025 and was released in November of that year.  In Mammoet it was made in a run of 350 models.
