The Wirtgen SP 64i is a slipform paver with concrete equipment specially adapted to the US market.  It is usually used in road construction.

Packaging

The model comes in a Wirtgen branded box and is enclosed between expanded polystyrene trays, and secured with twist ties.

The review model had no defects or missing parts.

The model comes with a bag containing a few spare track links.

There is no information about the real machine.

Detail

The small plastic tracks are detailed and represent the plastic track option of the real machine. They are mounted on small frames.  The legs are very detailed complex parts, but there are no hydraulic hoses.

At the front there is a plow for spreading the concrete and there is a line of poker vibrators. The mould box has a smooth bottom.  Metal ladders and handrails rise up to the cab deck.

The cab deck has very nice mesh floors and there are finely detailed control consoles.  The metal loader arm has a small hook.

The dowel bar inserter is a very complex piece of modelling.  It is highly detailed when viewed from all angles.  It also has a longitudinal tie bar inserter which has plastic parts.  The self-raising jacks are modelled.

The support beams are high quality detailed metal castings and there are side tie bar inserters.

At the back is a super smoother modelled in metal and a metal lattice beam.

Features

Each track unit can be steered and the track frames also.  The tracks rotate freely.

The spreading plow has limited side-to-side movement.

The longitudinal tie bar inserter moves forwards and backwards.

The super smoother fully moves side-to-side and has a rotating head.

The self-raising jacks can be moved but they cannot be lowered.

The loader arm can be fully posed rotated, elevated and extended.

Quality

This is a high quality model with a high metal content.

The paint and graphics are excellent.

Price

It is reasonably priced for a complex model.

Overall

This is a highly detailed model in 1:50 scale.  It is good to see a model of a machine like this and NZG has delivered it very well.
