The Liebherr HS 8130.1 is a duty cycle machine which means it is
strengthened for repetitive activities such as dragline
or foundation work.
The model comes with a slurry wall grab, a dragline
bucket and a dynamic compaction loads.
Packaging
It comes in a Liebherr-branded box and the HS
8130.1 and its various parts are packed into two
expanded polystyrene trays.
There were no defects or missing parts on the review
model.
There is no information provided about the real crane, but there
is an instruction leaflet for the model. It is not
the best as the stages are out of sequence with how the
model is presented out of the box. There is no
parts list.
Detail
The metal tracks are very nicely made and include tiny rollers on the lower edge.
Detail is very good with the Liebherr name cast into the
main drive sprocket. Side counterweight plates for
the track frames are provided.
Between the tracks, self-raising jacks are provided but
are not practically useable.
The
new design operator's cab is very good with lights,
a mirror and windscreen wiper. Textured access
platforms surround the body and all handrails are
flexible plastic.
Detail on the crane body is very good, with grilles and
handles contained within the panels.
The roof has a nicely detailed exhaust system and there
are hydraulic hoses.
At the rear the counterweight blocks are very nicely
made, and 8 small blocks are provided.
The self-raising mechanism is provided with two lift cylinders
and chains, but there appears to be a modelling error
with the ram jackets pointing up rather than down
meaning that lifting the counterweight cannot be posed.
The boom sections are well made and are joined by tiny
brass nuts and bolts which provide an effective connection.
A dragline fairlead is provided and this is a very nicely
engineered part, all in metal.
At the boom top a variety of metal pulleys are provided
and these are fixed according to the configuration being
used.
The boom pendants consist of metal wire with
crimped loops on each end, and connection pieces.
Overall they look effective but the equaliser
arrangement is non functioning.
For dragline use, a bucket is provided. This is a great
part with high detailing such as the perforations within
the bucket.
A dynamic compaction weight is included. It is a
simple but effective part.
The slurry wall grab is all in metal and it is a very
high quality part. The structure is modelled well
and the grab looks convincing. Connections of the
moving parts are discrete. Two wire cables run to
the crane hoist ropes.
Features
The tracks work well and
they are mounted on extendible
frames so the tracks can be pulled out in operating mode
and can be pushed in to narrow the width for transport purposes.
The tracks are not removable and the headroom and width
of the model cannot be minimised so it is compromised as
a transport load.
Four jacks are provided to support the crane and these screw down.
The operator's cab tilts to a good angle.
There are three winches on the model. One controls the
boom and the other two are used for lifting or the
fairlead. They are controlled by using the supplied
keys through opening doors on the side of the model.
They all have effective positive brakes which are
released by pushing in with the tool, and the winches
work well enough.
The counterweight is fully detachable and configurable
at different weights.
The model can be configured in different ways
and the parts are provided to facilitate either slurry
wall, dragline or dynamic compaction operation.
The slurry wall grab works well with the grab opening
and closing smoothly.
Quality
This is a
high quality model with most parts being made in metal.
The paint quality and graphics are very
good.
Price
It is moderate value overall.
Overall
This latest version of a duty cycle crane is less
flexible for use as a transport load but it allows
different interesting configurations to be posed.
It is a very good looking model.
Footnotes
The model first appeared for the Bauma
2022 Exhibition.
An accessory kit was produced as model number #10461.
