The Liebherr A954C HD High Rise is a
materials handling machine with an operating weight in
current versions of between 83 and 91 tonnes. The
cab elevates to provide a better view over stockpiles or
down into ship's holds and gives an eye level of around
9.6m. The boom has variable attachment positions
for the lift cylinders to provide different operating
characteristics.
The model is configured with a 1.5m clamshell which has
a capacity of 2.2m³. This version is in the colours of
Overslag Bedrijf Moerdijk (OBM) which is
a general cargo company and terminal operator in
Moerdijk, the Netherlands.
Packaging
The model comes in a large Liebherr branded
box containing two trays. There were
no defects or missing parts on the review model.
There is no information about the real machine
and no instructions for the model. Assembly is
limited to attaching the grab, and this is easy to do.
Detail
The undercarriage has a heavy construction with some
transmission details modelled underneath. The
solid rubber slick tyres are mounted on very detailed
hubs. Around the undercarriage are metal handrails
and ladders and some of these are very thin gauge.
The turret is a good representation of the steel tube of
the original machine with bolt details on the joining
flanges.
The ladders and walkways around the cab are metal with
anti-slip surfaces on the platforms. The cab has a
fine gauge handrail, and mirrors, wipers and tinted
windows with replica seals. Internal detail is
good too.
The body has good casting detail with various grilles
included. The graphics are excellent with the OBM
livery looking great and there are small warning
triangles too. There are some extremely fine grab
rails on top of the body, and hydraulic pipes connect to
the boom foot.
The hydraulics run the length of the boom and connect to
the cylinders. The VarioLiftPlus additional
connection points for the main lift cylinders have been
modelled, including lifting eye positions with tiny
graphics. Both the boom and the stick have lights
modelled.
The clamshell is metal and looks good.
Features
The wheels roll well with the steering axle able to
achieve an angle of around 30°.
The outriggers on the undercarriage can be lowered
although they were extremely stiff on the review model.
The metal pads are pinned and move on the beams.
The upper carriage rotates, and the cab elevates
with the cylinders stiff enough to hold any pose.
The range of movement on the boom and stick is very good
and again the cylinders will hold any pose set.
The clamshell rotates on its fixing and can be opened to
a wide angle. It can be posed opened or closed.
Quality
This is a very good quality model, with little
plastic, and it is quite heavy. It looks striking
in the colours of OBM.
Price
It is a good value model.
Overall
This is a specialist machine and NZG has modelled it
very well. The colour scheme is very attractive
and it is highly recommended overall.
Footnotes
The model first appeared in Liebherr colours in 2006.
This version in the colours of OBM
appeared as a Summer release in 2011 and was made in
a limited run of 300 models.
