Comment on this model.
The Liebherr A 904 Material Handler is based on the A
904 Wheeled Excavator and has a beefed-up undercarriage
with four stabilisers, and an elevating cab. It
weighs around 25 tonnes.
This model is in the colours of
Richi, a Swiss company based in Weiningen.
Packaging
The model comes in a Liebherr branded box which has a
graphic rather than a photo of the real machine. Inside the model rests
in an expanded polystyrene tray. There were no missing parts or
defects on the review model.
It is fully assembled out of the box.
Detail
The chassis is simple with some transmission detailing
but the storage boxes on each side are hollow
underneath. The wheels have decent looking tyres.
At each end the stabiliser beams and pads are modelled
in metal.
The cab has realistic looking window seals, and fine
gauge metal grab rails with mirrors at the front.
Interior detail is good. There are many cables
running from the back of the cab over the elevator to
the body.
The body is metal with some decent detailing in the
casting. Both Liebherr and the model number are
embossed within the casting although the colour scheme
does not highlight them. There are a number of
small graphics and the lights at the back are painted,
and more metal grab rails and plastic mirrors.
The boom and stick are industrial-type straight
configurations and they have very good thin hydraulic
hoses on top. The Richi graphics are applied well.
The sorting grapple is metal and likes quite good
although it does not have the perforations of the real
grapple.
Features
The undercarriage rolls well enough and there is
steering on one axle with a reasonable range of
movement.
The stabilisers have pivoting pads and they can be fully
lowered and can support the model wheels free.
It rotates smoothly.
The cab elevates to a good height and the mechanism has
enough stiffness to hold any pose.
The boom and stick have a good range of movement and the
stability of the model is stretched just when they are
stretched out horizontally.
The grapple rotates although it was very stiff on the
review model, and it opens and closes with the two
halves sharing the same cylinder.
Quality
It is a usual high quality model by NZG with a high
metal content. The paintwork is good although
there were some small blemishes, and the graphics are
very good.
Price
It is good value for a limited edition.
Overall
This is an interesting materials handler which looks
good and performs well. It is in an unusual livery
and is highly recommended.
Footnotes
The model in Richi colours appeared in
2012.
