The MT 31 is an articulated dump
truck with an unladen weight of 22 tonnes and it is able to
carry a load of 28.5 tonnes. The body volume is
17.6m³ and the MT 31 is capable of a maximum speed
of 51 km/h.
Moxy is based in Norway and was acquired by Doosan in
2008.
Packaging
The model comes in a Doosan Moxy branded box but there is no
information about the real machine. The model is
contained between a pair of polystyrene
trays, and the review model had no defects or missing parts.
There is no assembly to do, and no information about the
model.
Detail
The tyres have a good tread pattern and are a little
shiny so would look better with a matt finish.
They are mounted on detailed hubs.
The chassis and transmission are both metal and
detailed. The floating axles at the rear are
secured by unusual brass rivets which stand out from
certain angles and
would have been better painted.
At the front the lights and mirrors are plastic but they
look good enough. The access steps to the cab have
a smooth rather than textured surface. Inside the
cab the detail is very good with a detailed instrument
cluster and controls. There is a fine protective
mesh to the rear window.
The body is a solid metal casting and the securing chain
for the raising tailgate has a nice matt finish rather
than silver. Underneath the body the model number
is given as 501 indicating its heritage.
Features
Each wheel rolls separately and the rear pairs are
mounted on a floating arrangement which gives a good
range of movement on each side.
Steering is effected across a joint behind the cab and
an angle of about 30° can be achieved. The
trailer rotates fully compared to the cab.
There is a plastic cover over the front axle
transmission and on the review model this was easily
removable to reveal the transmission.
The dump body raises to a good height and the hinged
tailgate lifts as the body tips. There is a safety
bar which can be raised to prop the body to allow safe
maintenance.
Quality
This is a well made model with a distinctive colour
scheme. The few graphics applied are sharp.
Price
The model is reasonable value for money.
Overall
This is a relatively old casting which has been given a
facelift with the Doosan Moxy colour scheme. However it
is still a good model with some nice detailing and
robust features. It is
recommended.
Footnotes
The model first appeared in 2003 as NZG model number
501 when it was the Moxy MT 31. It was generally released in
2011 in Doosan Moxy colours as model number 820 although
some were sold in 2010 also.
