Comment on this model.

This version of the MAN TGX and Curtainside Trailer is in the colours of Johann Dettendorfer, a Bavarian transport company founded in 1825.

Packaging

The model comes in an NZG branded box and is contained between a pair of polystyrene trays held in place with a clear plastic lid.

The review model had no defects or missing parts, but there were some very feint glue marks on the trailer roof which were hardly visible.

There is no assembly to do, and no information about the model or real truck is supplied.

Detail

The 4x2 MAN TGX tractor is solidly made and underneath the transmission and rear axle is fully detailed with the front axle modelled for functionality as a compromise.  The tyres are wider on the front axle and the wheels are nicely detailed.

The cab has twin roof aerials and the door mirrors are colour-coded.  The lights are high quality with lenses, and it has a realistic number plate.  The MAN vehicle type number is TGX 18.680.  A nice aspect is the windowed high roof with the resulting view provided inside the cab.

Behind the cab there are coiled air lines and a non-slip walking surface.  Various tanks are modelled and the exhaust box has a Euro 5 designation.  The rear lights have plastic lenses.

The trailer is simply modelled and it is metal with plastic sides and roof.  The wheels are good and there are a couple of spare tyres.  The landing legs are fixed metal parts and there is a large metal box hanging from the frame.

The curtainside moulding has some subtle shape and texture with the tie-downs highlighted in silver.  The graphics printing is very sharp.  At the rear the door handles are highlighted and the lights have plastic lenses.

Features

The MAN tractor rolls well enough without being free-rolling and the the steering can be posed with a hard lock.

The trailer rolls well and stands on the landing legs although not quite horizontal.  However all the wheels are grounded because of movement within the axles.

Quality

This is a high quality model  with a high metal content in the tractor.

The paintwork and graphics are very good.

Price

The model is reasonable value for money.

Overall

Although the feature count is low, the cab detailing and quality is good and the model looks convincing.  It is recommended.

Footnotes

This version of the model first appeared as a Toy Fair 2013 release in a limited edition of 300 models.
