Mercedes Benz introduced a new
version of the Actros truck in June 2011 and this model
is of the FH25 GigaSpace with a three axle box trailer.
This version is decorated to commemorate the 'Record
Run' carried out in July 2011 between Rotterdam and
Szczecin, when the new Actros truck demonstrated it was
the most fuel-efficient production series truck.
Packaging
The model comes in an NZG branded box. The model is
contained between a pair of polystyrene
trays held in place with a clear plastic former. The review model had no defects or missing parts.
There is no detailed assembly to do, and no information about the
model or real truck is supplied.
Detail
The Actros tractor is detailed underneath in metal with
the steering being functionally modelled as a
compromise. The tyres are wider on the front axle
and the wheels are detailed.
The cab decoration is excellent with many small sharp
graphics, and the usual details of air horns, wipers and
mirrors are included. The grille at the front is finely
reproduced and the lights are high quality. Inside
there is a two-tone finish.
Behind the cab there is a coiled air line, and the fuel
tanks are realistic with colour coded filler caps.
The rear lights have plastic lenses.
The trailer is simply modelled and it is metal.
The wheels are good and there are a couple of spares.
The landing legs are fixed metal parts.
The graphics on the side of the box are excellent.
There are nice lights at the rear but the door detailing
is barely visible.
Features
The Actros rolls well and the the steering is very good
with a hard lock being possible.
The trailer also rolls well and when separated from the
trailer it stands well on the landing legs.
Quality
NZG has produced a high quality model that is almost
entirely in metal and is surprisingly heavy.
The paintwork and graphics are very good.
Price
The model is reasonable value for money.
Overall
This is a very good presentation model and looks
impressive posed for display. The feature count is
limited, but the cab detailing and quality is high, so
the truck is recommended overall.
Footnotes
This version of the model first appeared in Summer 2012.
