Comment on this model.
This model is a Mercedes-Benz 4x4 Unimog U 400 series
which is configured for road / rail use, and carries out
particular duties as a shunter.
This model is in the colours of
Zagro, the
German railway engineering company.
Packaging
This version of the model comes in a NZG-branded box and
inside it is held within a plastic display case. The
display case cannot accommodate the track section
because of the attachment points securing the Unimog.
There were no defects or missing parts on the review
model.
There is no information about the model or the real
vehicle.
Detail
The Unimog has a detailed 4x4 chassis which is
modelled in metal, and the large wheel hubs are plastic.
The tyre design is the same on all wheels. There are
small rail wheels attached to frames at the front and
back, although on the review model the front frame is low in road mode.
At the front the lights are painted. The Mercedes-Benz
logo is modelled well and there is a plate with nice
graphics.
The cab is detailed with rigid lights, mirrors and
number plate assemblies. Even though the model is
in Zagro colours, the number plate is a dummy.
Textured steps lead up to the cab and the Zagro and DB graphics are detailed and sharp.
The vehicle type is shown as a U 430.
Inside the cab there is a Mercedes-Benz logo on the
steering wheel and the centre console is finely detailed
with switches.
Behind the cab the exhaust and air intake is plastic.
Fuel and water tanks look good with highlighted filler
caps.
The body is metal with a unique shape, and the pusher
beam is metal also.
The rear lights have good looking plastic lenses and
twin boxes have very fine grille texturing. There is
also a towing hitch.
A section of rail track is included together with a
connector so that sections can be joined up. It
has a detailed plastic bed and metal rails.
Features
The Unimog rolls well and the steering works well and
achieves a good angle.
The rail wheels can be lowered and raised.
The pusher beam can be raised and lowered.
The model can be displayed in its display case, or
removed by unscrewing two securing screws. It can
be posed on the included track section, but not inside
the display case.
It can be posed towing a trailer.
Quality
This is another quality Unimog model from NZG with a high metal content.
The finish is very good and the graphics are sharp.
Price
It is good value.
Overall
As a road-rail vehicle this Unimog is particularly
interesting, and looks really good on the included track
section.
Footnotes
The model first appeared at the Nuremberg Toy Fair in
2016 and was available in this livery in January 2016.
