Comment on this model.

This model is of a Mercedes-Benz 4x4 Unimog U 5000 series and is is the extreme all-terrain version.

It is an off-road version in a sand colour as would be used in military applications.

Packaging

This version of the model is delivered in a NZG-branded box with an outer shipping carton.   Inside it is held within a plastic display case.

There were no defects or missing parts on the review model.

There is no information about the model or the real vehicle.

Detail

It has a detailed 4x4 metal chassis which includes the drivetrain, and it has the high ground clearance typical of an all-terrain truck.  The wheels are metal with nice heavy tyres suited for off-road work.

The front grille looks authentic and the Mercedes-Benz logo looks sharp.  The raised air intake is included and the cab has finely painted door handles.  An access hatch in the roof is modelled in the casting.   Inside the cab the Mercedes-Benz logo on the steering wheel is just visible.

Behind the cab the exhaust is modelled well.

The rear lights have good looking plastic lenses and there is also a towing hitch.

The load box is metal and the drop sides are detailed and non-functional.  The plastic cover is textured on top to represent tarpaulin but seems a little too plain on the sides.

The plastic display case is good quality and it includes a name plate which denotes the Unimog as a U 5023.

Features

The Unimog rolls well enough and the steering also works well and achieves a very good angle.

Each wheel is independently sprung with a good range of movement although torsional movement of the body is not possible.

The model can be displayed in its display case, or removed by undoing two securing screws.

It can be posed towing a suitable trailer.

Quality

This is very good quality model from NZG with a high metal content.

The paint is very good and the graphics are very sharp with the exception of the tiniest ones.

Price

It is reasonable value.

Overall

As befits the Unimog many different applications are possible and this off-road version is a good model.
